Penélope Cruz swapped her signature Parisian elegance for a bold, avant-garde French-inspired look during a recent outing in London, delivering one of her most daring fashion statements in years.

While promoting her film The Bride! directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal at The Corinthia Hotel, the Spanish actress chose a striking design by French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus, favoring modern edge over her usual refined and understated style. She completed the ensemble with dramatic Italian jewelry, turning heads with a high-impact statement.

Less than a month earlier, Cruz had been channeling classic French chic in a very different way. At the Chanel Haute Couture show, where she posed alongside stars like Dua Lipa and Carlota Casiraghi, she opted for a traditional ensemble from the French fashion house, reinforcing her reputation for elegant, conservative style.

As Penélope Cruz kicks off the international promotion for her new film, she seems ready to embrace a bolder, more experimental fashion approach. At The Corinthia Hotel in London, where she appeared alongside co-stars Jessie Buckley, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Christian Bale, Cruz stepped away from her usual Chanel choices and turned to one of France’s hottest contemporary designers.

She wore a piece from Jacquemus’ Fall/Winter collection—a black midi dress featuring a rounded neckline that highlighted her décolletage, long fitted sleeves, and a cinched waist that accentuated her figure.

The dress was enhanced with decorative faux fringe, adding texture and movement to the look. Notably, French model Tina Kunakey had previously worn the same design during Jacquemus’s men’s collection presentation in Paris on January 25.

The design also appears in other variations on the runway, including a bright yellow and a black-and-white version, featuring ring-like embellishments that act as fringe along the skirt.

Cruz amplified the dramatic effect with statement Italian jewelry. For her role as Myrna Mallow in the Frankenstein-inspired story set in 1930s Chicago, she wore bold, baroque-style earrings by Roberto Cavalli, adorned with floral motifs, red stones, and pearls. The ornate pieces brought a theatrical and glamorous touch that perfectly matched the visual impact of her London appearance.

This ensemble marked a noticeable shift in Cruz’s style, combining French avant-garde fashion with Italian craftsmanship and signaling her willingness to experiment with more daring red-carpet looks during her international film promotion.

As of February, Cruz is fully immersed in the launch of The Bride!, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 6. This gothic romance, produced by Warner Bros. after a high-profile move from Netflix, serves as Maggie Gyllenhaal’s second directorial effort following The Lost Daughter.

The film features a powerhouse ensemble including Christian Bale as the monster and Jessie Buckley in the titular role, alongside Annette Bening and Peter Sarsgaard. Beyond the horror genre, Cruz has several high-profile projects currently in post-production.

She is set to star in the upcoming thriller The Invite, as well as a new project titled La Bola Negra. Additionally, she remains a brand ambassador for several luxury houses, continuing her long-standing relationship with Chanel while increasingly branching out into contemporary labels like Jacquemus for her red-carpet appearances.
