Pierce Brosnan, 72, Defies Age & Shows Off a Stylish Look at the UK Gala Screening of His New Film ‘Giant’
Pierce Brosnan stepped into the spotlight in London this week as he attended the UK gala screening of his new film Giant. The event took place on Wednesday at Picturehouse Central, where the veteran actor appeared relaxed and confident while greeting photographers and guests.
For the evening, Brosnan chose a clean and polished look. He wore a black/npm suit and paired it with a dark turtleneck, a choice that worked well for the chilly weather. He finished the outfit with shiny dress shoes, keeping things simple and sharp without trying too hard.
The 72-year-old actor was not alone on the red carpet. He was joined by Prince Naseem Hamed, the legendary boxer whose life story is at the center of the film. The two shared smiles and laughs as they posed together, clearly enjoying the moment and the attention from fans and press.
Giant tells the story of Naseem Hamed’s rise from humble beginnings in Sheffield to becoming a world champion. Brosnan plays Brendan Ingle, the Irish-born boxing trainer who helped guide Naseem’s career. The film focuses on their unlikely partnership and the challenges they faced during the 1980s and 1990s, including racism and pressure from fame.
"He does an amazing job as my trainer, better than I thought anyone could. I'm happy about that." Prince Naseem Hamed on Pierce Brosnan's portrayal of his trainer Brendan Ingle in the film "Giant". Brosnan recently spoke about the role while appearing on The One Show, where he joined co-star Amir El-Masry, who plays Prince Naseem. During the interview, Brosnan explained how different this role was from anything he had done before. “There was a transformation in this,” he said. “I don’t look like Brendan and again when I read this text I thought, ‘My God, Rowan, you’ve given me a jewel here.’”
To become Brendan Ingle, Brosnan spent long hours in makeup. He shared that prosthetics were a big part of the process. “It was a couple of hours,” he said. “I had a bald cap and a nose.” El-Masry added that the makeup team worked carefully to help Brosnan fully disappear into the role.
The conversation also turned playful when Brosnan was asked about wearing Brendan’s famous leopard print tracksuit in the film. “He was a showman,” Brosnan said with a smile. “Brendan was a total showman. So was Naz.” He joked that he even kept the tracksuit afterward, adding, “You never know.”
The film is written and directed by Rowan Athale and produced by Sylvester Stallone through Balboa Productions. According to a statement from AGC Studios CEO Stuart Ford, the team has believed in the project for years and was eager to bring the story to the screen with the right cast.
Giant had its first screening at the 2025 BFI London Film Festival and is set for release in the UK and Ireland on January 9. It will later open in the United States. While the film has already sparked debate, especially from Prince Naseem himself, it remains one of the most talked-about sports dramas of the year.
