The final chapter of Kanan Stark’s origin story is almost here. ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ concludes its fifth and final season with episode 8, an installment that closes out a story Starz has been telling since 2021.

With the Thomas family’s grip on Queens crumbling and Kanan’s ruthlessness fully realized, the series finale carries the weight of five seasons of buildup as it wraps the prequel to Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s original ‘Power’.

Raising Kanan Season 5 Episode 8 Release Date

‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ season 5 is scheduled to run through August 7, which marks the release of the series finale.

The season, which was renewed back on March 27, 2024, officially premiered on June 12, 2026, and consists of eight total episodes, a shorter run than some of the show’s earlier seasons.

New episodes have been dropping weekly on Fridays, and episode 8 continues that pattern as the closing chapter of the fifth and final season.

Following the mid-season break between episodes 5 and 6, the show returned to its traditional weekly rollout, with episode 7 arriving on July 31 before the finale caps off the season the following week.

Raising Kanan Series Finale Time and Where to Watch

Throughout season 5, new episodes have hit the linear Starz channel at 8 pm ET and PT, or 7 pm CT, following the same broadcast pattern that has held for the entire final season.

Starz has not formally advertised a separate streaming release time for the season, though the platform has historically dropped new titles around midnight ET for subscribers checking the app ahead of the traditional evening broadcast.

Starz remains the only platform carrying ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’, and cable subscribers can catch the finale on the Starz channel at its scheduled broadcast time, while streaming subscribers can access the same episode through the Starz app.

The series also features a companion series called ‘The Nightcap’, which consists of interviews with actors whose characters’ storylines have ended during the season, with new installments released after each corresponding episode airs.

What Happens in the Raising Kanan Season 5 Finale

Episode 7, titled ‘Penultimate Means Second to Last’, ended with Kanan claiming another life, confirming that Lou-Lou was not the only member of the Thomas family to die by his hand.

Series creator Sascha Penn has said this final season answers every remaining question about the story, including how Kanan is ultimately able to kill Jukebox in the original ‘Power’, and that everything involving the Thomas family will be resolved by the finale.

By the time the season and series finale arrives, there is no longer anyone standing between Kanan and his mother Raq, played by Patina Miller, and reporting on the penultimate episode indicates Kanan will not die in the finale, though it will mark the end of the story for other characters.

Raq is described as having nothing left to lose heading into the confrontation, having already made enemies of Kanan, Stefano and Hafiz while they operate together against her.

Cast and Characters Heading Into the Finale

Mekai Curtis stars as the younger version of Kanan Stark, the character originated by 50 Cent in ‘Power’, with Curtis also serving as narrator and executive producer on the prequel series.

The season 5 cast includes London Brown as Marvin Thomas, Joey Bada$$ as Unique, and Shameik Moore as Breeze, a new Southside ally who forms an alliance with Kanan that reshapes the balance of power in Queens.

Starz’s official description of the season notes that the Thomas family faces the collapse of their reign, Unique fights to preserve his legacy, and the Mafia maneuvers behind the scenes as the show heads toward its conclusion.

Tommy Egan actor Joseph Sikora also directed an episode of the final season, a detail he confirmed himself on social media ahead of the season’s premiere.

With Kanan and Raq’s confrontation finally arriving after five seasons of buildup, fans of ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ will have plenty to weigh in on once they see how Kanan Stark’s origin story ends.
