Although we knew we can expect a lot of news on Disney+ Day regarding popular Disney stuff like Animated Movies, Marvel, and Star Wars, thankfully we didn’t forget one franchise that Disney acquired from Fox in 2019.
The fifth installment of the Predator franchise today got the official title – Prey – and the movie is set to be released on Hulu in Summer 2022, confirmed by Deadline.
Deadline reported last year that the project will be directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who is known for 10 Cloverfield Lane, while the screenplay was written by Patrick Aison.
Predator, a science fiction action horror franchise started back in 1987 with the original movie of the same name. The sequel, Predator 2 was released in 1990. Then, in 2004 and 2007, two crossover movies with Alien – Alien vs. Predator – were released. The franchise issued two more movies in the main series – the 2010 movie Predators and the 2018 movie The Predator.
Although The Predator became the highest-grossing film in the franchise, it didn’t impress the critics that called it “another missed opportunity.” The movie holds only a 33% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a poor 5.3 rating on IMDb. We’ll see if Prey can live up to the name of the franchise.
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, and starring Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Dane DiLiegro, and Stefany Mathias, Prey will debut on Hulu in Summer 2022, with the exact release date still TBA.
