We live in a time when there have never been more superheroes movies or TV shows. And even though Marvel and DC are working 24/7 to bring us a lot of new content, there’s always some third party that will join the fun. In the summer of 2019, Amazon Prime Video debuted The Boys, a satirical R-rated show which has shaken the superhero genre like no movie or TV show before (and no, we didn’t forget about Deadpool).
With its unique style, humor, storytelling, depiction of violence, and strong performances of the cast (particularly Antony Starr as the main villain Homelander), The Boys quickly earned huge popularity and received critical acclaim from both critics and audience. The second season premiered in the fall of 2020, and the third season is set to premiere next June. And even the author of this text couldn’t be more excited about it!
And while we wait for the third season of the show, let’s not forget there’s already an animated spin-off series set to premiere prior to the third season. The Boys Presents: Diabolical is the eight-episode anthology series developed by Eric Kripke, creator of the original series. Each episode will have its own animation style, and each has been a writer by a different set of screenwriters. Awkwafina, Garth Ennis, Eliot Glazer and Ilana Glazer, Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, Simon Racioppa, Justin Roiland and Ben Bayouth, and Andy Samberg and Aisha Tyler serve as the respective writers of all the episodes.
Now, only two weeks after releasing a teaser trailer, Prime Video offered us the full official trailer, which you can check out below:
“From some of the most unhinged and maniacal minds in Hollywood today comes Diabolical, a collection of eight irreverent and emotionally shocking animated short films. Featuring stories by Seth Rogen, Awkwafina, Aisha Tyler, and more, each episode plunges elbow-deep into unseen crevices of The Boys Universe.” — The Boys Presents: Diabolical, official description
The Boys Presents: Diabolical is set to premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on March 4, 2022.
