Few figures in sports history have left a legacy as towering as Muhammad Ali, the boxing champion, humanitarian, and global icon whose influence reached far beyond the ring. Prime Video is now bringing his story to the small screen with ‘The Greatest’, a scripted series that promises an intimate look at the life behind the legend.

The project has been in the works for some time. Prime Video greenlit the series in July 2024 in collaboration with Ali’s estate, and production began in May 2025, with a first-look teaser debuting this past July at the Essence Festival of Culture.

Now Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video have unveiled the official trailer and key art for ‘The Greatest’, giving fans their best look yet at the upcoming drama. The series will premiere all 8 episodes on Wednesday, November 4, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories.

What sets the project apart is its unprecedented access. ‘The Greatest’ is the first authorized scripted series about Ali’s life, with his widow, Lonnie Ali, serving as an executive producer.

Newcomer Jaalen Best leads the series as Ali, beginning with his early years as Cassius Clay. The story follows his conversion to Islam and his rise into one of the most influential figures in both sports and civil rights.

The supporting cast includes Omari Hardwick as Ali’s father and Michael Ealy as Malcolm X. Giovanni Ribisi, Dana Gourrier, Kai Parham, and Amin Joseph also star. Ben Watkins, the creator of Prime Video’s ‘Cross’, serves as creator, showrunner, and executive producer through his Blue Monday Productions banner. Watkins also directed the first 2 episodes of the series.

Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society is producing, with the company’s president, Elizabeth Raposo, serving as an executive producer. Authentic Studios, Roc Nation, Polygram Entertainment, and Grace: A Storytelling Company are also involved.

For the Oscar-winning Jordan, ‘The Greatest’ is part of a busy slate with Amazon. He is also expected to direct and star in ‘Creed IV’ for Amazon MGM Studios following his work on the studio’s remake of ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’.

His involvement adds plenty of star power behind the scenes. Given his history with boxing stories through the ‘Creed’ franchise, his connection to an Ali series feels especially fitting. The series aims to explore more than just Ali’s famous fights. According to its official description, it goes beyond the victories and defeats that made him a legend, offering an intimate portrait of his life both in and out of the ring.

The 8-episode format also gives the story more room than a traditional feature film. That extra time should allow the series to dig deeper into the personal and political chapters of Ali’s journey.

With the full support of Ali’s family, ‘The Greatest’ carries a level of authenticity that previous adaptations couldn’t claim. The involvement of Lonnie Ali gives the project a direct connection to the champion’s legacy.

That access, combined with a strong cast and a proven creative team, has already made the series one of Prime Video’s most anticipated originals of the year. The new trailer only raises expectations further.

‘The Greatest’ premieres November 4 on Prime Video, with all episodes dropping at once. Fans will be able to binge the entire story of one of history’s most remarkable athletes in a single sitting.
