‘Prison Break: Black Creek’ Teaser Reveals a Dangerous New Twist on the Hit Franchise

‘Prison Break’ is returning with a story that turns the original idea upside down. Instead of following a man trying to break someone out of prison, the new Hulu series will focus on a woman who willingly takes a job inside one of the most dangerous prisons in the country.

The new series is called ‘Prison Break: Black Creek,’ and Hulu has released its first teaser as production gets underway. The project is being developed as a new story within the same universe as the original show, but fans should not expect Michael Scofield or Lincoln Burrows to be at the center of it.

According to the information released about the series, ‘Black Creek’ follows Cassidy Collins, a former soldier who becomes a corrections officer at a brutal prison. She has a personal reason for taking the job and is willing to put herself in serious danger for someone she loves. That setup gives the franchise a familiar prison setting while taking the story in a completely different direction.

Emily Browning will play Cassidy. She will be joined by Lukas Gage as Jackson, a wealthy politician who is starting his first campaign for Congress, and Drake Rodger as Tommy, a prisoner who has spent the last ten years behind bars. The cast also includes Clayton Cardenas as Ghost, a dangerous inmate, and Myles Bullock as Darius “Red” Lewis, another prisoner trying to survive the prison’s violent power struggles.

Georgie Flores plays Andrea, a fellow cadet who trains alongside Cassidy, while JR Bourne takes on the role of Junior. His character is especially connected to the prison’s history. Junior is described as the mentally unstable survivor of a prison break that happened decades ago and left the nearby town devastated.

The new series comes from Elgin James, who is writing and executive producing the project. James is known for his work on ‘Mayans M.C.’ and ‘The Outlaws.’ He is also working through his Sierra Drive production banner.

The Hollywood Reporter and other industry reports have tracked the show’s development since it was first announced. The project entered development in November 2023, and Hulu ordered a pilot in December 2024. The main cast was later revealed in March 2025, and production has now moved forward with the first teaser.

There is also a familiar name behind the scenes. Paul Scheuring, who created the original ‘Prison Break,’ is returning as an executive producer. Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Moritz are also involved. That connection should help the new series keep a link to the original show even though it is moving away from its best-known characters.

For longtime fans, the biggest question will probably be whether ‘Black Creek’ can feel like ‘Prison Break’ without Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows. Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are not currently attached to the project, meaning this is not being presented as another chapter in the brothers’ story.

That may actually be the biggest selling point of the new series. Rather than trying to recreate the original formula, ‘Black Creek’ can build its own characters and story while still using the name that made the franchise famous. The prison setting remains, but the central mystery and the people involved are completely different.

The original ‘Prison Break’ first premiered on Fox in 2005 and quickly became one of the network’s biggest hits. Michael’s detailed plan to save his brother made the series a major hit with viewers, and its popularity continued long after the show ended. The franchise eventually returned for a fifth season in 2017, years after the original run had finished.

The series also expanded beyond television with ‘The Final Break,’ a mobile spinoff, a video game, webisodes, a magazine, and a novel. Its popularity has remained strong in the streaming era as well, with reports showing that the original series was still attracting huge audiences years after its finale.

Now Hulu is hoping that interest can carry over to a completely new story. There is no premiere date for ‘Prison Break: Black Creek’ yet, but production is officially moving ahead. If the new series can capture the tension, twists, and danger that made the original so popular, the franchise could have another long run ahead of it.
