Prison School is a seinen manga by Akira Hiramoto, published in Kōdansha publisher’s Weekly Young Magazine from February 7, 2011 to December 25, 2017 and published in a total of 28 bound volumes. An anime adaptation produced by studio J.C. Staff aired between July and September 2015 on Tokyo MX and simulcast on Crunchyroll. A drama adaptation aired in Japan between October and December 2015. In this article, we are going to talk about a potential second season of Prison School.

The second season of Prison School still hasn’t been confirmed yet. The first season aired seven years ago and we had an OVA released on 2016, which was the last we’ve seen of Prison School. Still, Prison School has a lot more chapters up for adaptation and it is not completely impossible for the show to be renewed at one point. We just don’t know when.

The rest of this article will bring you all the known and unknown information related to a potential season 2 of Prison School. You’re going to find out about its potential release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, and much more about this extremely popular new anime series.

Prison School Season 2 release date

The anime adaptation was announced in August 2014 in the manga’s fourteenth volume. The television series, written by Michiko Yokote and produced by J.C. Staff under the direction of Tsutomu Mizushima, aired from July 10 to September 25, 2015. The opening and closing themes, both sung by the group Kangoku Danshi (formed by the voice actors Hiroshi Kamiya, Katsuyuki Konishi, Ken’ichi Suzumura, Daisuke Namikawa and Kazuyuki Okitsu), were, respectively, “Ai no prison”, composed by Narasaki and written by Kenji Ōtsuki, and “Tsumibukaki oretachi no sanka”, composed by Ryūji Takagi and written by Kiyomi Kumano.

In North America the series was licensed to Funimation. In Australia and New Zealand the streaming rights have been acquired by Madman Entertainment for AnimeLab. An uncensored version has also been released both in English speaking countries and in Europe. An OVA episode was released alongside the manga’s 20th volume limited edition on March 4, 2016.

We know that the manga has more than 200 chapters, roughly 80 of which have been adapted so far. This means that there is more than enough material to adapt at this moment, but the fact that this is an erotic seinen title makes the potential of this series very limited. You cannot capture a large audience, as not all demographics can watch the show. This is why we have to wonder whether Prison School is actually going to return. So, what is it?

As you can see, the future of Prison School is quite uncertain, but not because there’s no interest. There is enough material for at least two more season, possibly even three, depending on the tempo, but the fact that it is a very erotic seinen title with a limited potential fandom, combined with the fact that it’s been six years since the release of the OVA episode makes the show’s future unclear. In any case, the earliest we could see a potential second season is 2024, but we’d have to get some confirmation on the future during 2022 or 2023.

Prison School Season 2 trailer

You now know all the facts and our thoughts related to Prison School Season 2, which means that you’ve probably deduced for yourselves that there is no trailer for the second season of Prison School. This is because we do not know whether there will even be a second season of the show, which means that a trailer might not appear at all. But, based on all the information we have, the future is not completely clear.

As we have said, Prison School has a very uncertain future. There is more than enough material for at least two additional seasons, but the fact is that Prison School has a limited potential audience and that its topic is quite controversial and also borderline hentai. This, paired with the fact that it’s been years since we had any news on the show, is not a good sign. But, Prison School has a cult following and we’ve seen a lot less popular anime series make a return, so all hope is definitely not lost.

Taking into account everything we’ve said, a trailer for Prison School Season 2 is unlikely to come out this or the next year. The earliest we could see a trailer is late 2023 or in 2024, but we would have to get confirmation of a fourth season sometime during 2022 or 2023 for that to happen.

Prison School Season 2 plot

At this moment, we do not know where the second season of Prison School could take us in terms of the manga; the first season adapted roughly 80 chapters, so a potential second season could adapt roughly the same number of chapters. But, due to a lack of information in general, we have absolutely no clue how far the second season might go if it even happens. What follows is a general overview of the show’s plot.

Hachimitsu Academy is an elite high school for girls in Tokyo characterized by strict rules of conduct including a ban on dating boys. At the beginning of the series, however, the school decides to open its doors also to the boys keeping the same rules, but to their amazement the new male students turn out to be only five: Kiyoshi Fujino, Takehito “Gakuto” Morokuzu, Shingo Wakamoto, Jōji “Joe” Nezu and Reiji “André” Andō.

The boys quickly become friends but things turn bad when the group is discovered spying on the women’s toilets: the punishment is established in a month of imprisonment and hard labor by the school’s strict secret student association led by President Mari, daughter of the principal, vice president Meiko and secretary Hana.

Shortly before the punishment began, Kiyoshi had managed to interact with a girl, Chiyo, who turns out to be Mari’s sister: the two will continue to see each other clandestinely and when the boy’s friends find out they will isolate him, also because this behavior will determine for everyone the increased punishment.

Over time the situation returns to normal also because Gakuto helped Kiyoshi to escape so that he would get him a rare action figure he had longed for and Shingo falls in love with another member of the association, Anzu, and will escape as Kiyoshi, who he will accept without batting an eye all the spite of his friends and will sacrifice himself several times for them.

Mari, meanwhile, has in fact organized a secret operation aimed at obtaining their expulsion by exploiting the weaknesses of each of the boys, but with an elaborate stratagem and the benevolence of the headmaster the five eventually regain their freedom. The three main members of the association are put in prison and their place is taken by another triad.

Prison School Season 2 cast

It’s still too early for us to discuss a potential second season of Prison School in terms of cast and characters, simply because we do not know whether there will even be a second season. But, seeing how we know that the series is going to have a more-or-less fixed cast, we really don’t expect to see too many changes in the structure of season two, if it ever happens. Now, the main characters that have appeared in season one, likely to return for a second season, include:

Where to watch Prison School Season 2?

At this moment, as expected, there is no means of watching Prison School season two, as there is no season two of Prison School to watch. The first season was streamed globally by Funimation and Crunchyroll, the best anime-related sites on the Internet, so it is safe to assume that a second season would also be streamed via Funimation and Crunchyroll.

Will there be a Prison School Season 3?

The future of Prison School is, as of this moment, unknown. At this moment, we don’t really know anything about a second season, so whether we’ll be seeing the third season or not is still unknown. Prison School is a controversial show and although it has somewhat of a cult following, the fandom is limited to to its content. This is why we cannot predict the future of Prison School; we’ll have to wait and see what happens to season two of the show and then talk about a potential third season.
