Rachel Zegler Lands Her Next Big Role in an Upcoming Biopic

Gloria Estefan is preparing to share her story on the big screen, and Rachel Zegler has been confirmed to star in the upcoming biopic.

Zegler rose to fame in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, starred in Disney’s Snow White, and recently appeared in Evita on the West End.

Estefan praised the young actress, saying, “I think she’s awesome, I think she’s incredible. I know she’s killed it in Evita. She’s lovely.”

The singer revealed that the project is still awaiting final approval and that details like location and production are still being finalized.

“We’re still working on the green light because we’re figuring out where to do it, how to do it…you work, you work, you work, and then all of a sudden, boom, the trigger’s pulled and you’ve got to do it right away,” she said.

While early reports suggested the movie would adapt Estefan’s 2015 jukebox musical On Your Feet!, she clarified that the film will include more than just the stage show. “The movie’s not going to be the show. There’s a lot in there,” she explained.

Gloria Estefan, who was born in Cuba, moved to the United States with her family during the Cuban Revolution. She has become a major figure in Miami and is friends with celebrities like David and Victoria Beckham.

She shared a story about attending a dinner at their home that included prominent figures such as former President Barack Obama, Jeff Bezos, and the head of Reddit. “It was really cool. It was small, but only the most powerful people in that room. It was great. They’re very kind people,” she said.

Estefan also confirmed that Zegler has already impressed her with her talent. “I met her by Zoom. She’s got a beautiful singing voice and she’s a great actor,” she said. Once the film receives the official green light, the next steps will include offering Zegler the role formally and moving into production.
