Months ago, Marvel Studios unveiled the actors set to portray the core characters in the upcoming ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot. Pedro Pascal was selected to embody Reed Richards, while Vanessa Kirby was cast as Sue Storm. Joseph Quinn will portray the Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will bring The Thing to life. Additionally, Julia Garner will play Shalla-Bal, the MCU’s version of Silver Surfer.

The casting stirred controversy, with much of the criticism aimed at Garner’s portrayal of Silver Surfer. Pedro Pascal also faced scrutiny, with some fans expressing doubt about his suitability for the role of Mr. Fantastic, still holding onto the idea of John Krasinski as Reed Richards.

During a recent interview with Salaam Nerds, Rahul Kohli disclosed that he was in contention for the role but ultimately lost out to the star of ‘The Last of Us.’ He described his feelings about the loss as fluctuating from day to day.

Yeah, I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about it but I didn’t get it, is the important thing. But on good days, I see the Constantine, it will flare up once and again. And, I love all of them. On good days, you’re like, ‘Man, I’m wanted!’ People really want to see. You’re the guy that people will shout out for anything. On bad days, ‘It’s a reminder that you’re not the guy. You’re not there. These are the roles you’ll never get.’ So, it’s sweet and it’s perspective. It’s how you feel about yourself.

While Rahul Kohli was frequently fan-cast as Reed Richards, some fans noted that he might not perfectly embody the retro-futurist 60’s aesthetic the studio aimed for.

‘The Fantastic Four’ is set for release on July 25, 2025, with filming expected to commence in August 2024 at Pinewood Studios in London. Director Matt Shakman, recognized for his work on Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series “WandaVision” (2021), was initially in discussions to helm the film. Kevin Feige officially confirmed Shakman as the director at the D23 Expo the following month.
