Newly released court documents show that Justin Baldoni was leaning on friends for support during the tense period when he was clashing with Blake Lively on the set of “It Ends With Us.”

The messages became public because Baldoni’s legal team submitted them as evidence in his ongoing dispute with Lively. The texts included a group chat from January 5, 2024, shared among Baldoni, Rainn Wilson, Travis Van Winkle, Andy Grammer and producer Jamey Heath.

In the chat, Rainn Wilson reached out first and asked, “Any update Brothers?” Baldoni then described a very stressful night that involved a tough exchange with Ryan Reynolds. According to the messages, Baldoni felt that Reynolds spoke to him in a harsh and dismissive way.

Baldoni said Reynolds accused him and Heath of misrepresenting themselves and also questioned whether it was appropriate for them to host a podcast.

Baldoni told his friends that during the discussion, certain words were used that left him shocked. He said, “The word creepy and abuse were used in reference to me in my behavior.” He also said he struggled to react in the moment because he didn’t understand what was happening.

He wrote, “I was then given the words of what to say, and had to apologize which I was unable to do because my brain was trying to comprehend what was happening.”

He added that he didn’t think the situation was fair, but he felt the only way forward during that conversation was to recognize how Lively and Reynolds felt. Baldoni wrote, “I feel this was so unjust and yet the only path forward was to acknowledge her and Ryan’s feelings and apologize and take the wrath of an angry husband.”

Wilson responded right away and expressed shock at how the situation played out. He wrote, “Oh my God. I can’t believe it. You were set up and ambushed and personally attacked. I’m stunned.” Wilson said he understood why Baldoni froze in that moment and added that it might have been better that Baldoni didn’t instantly apologize. Wilson also thanked Heath for stepping in when needed and told Baldoni to stay focused on finishing the movie.

The conflict spilled into the legal system last year when Blake Lively filed a complaint on December 20, 2024, with the California Civil Rights Department.

She accused Baldoni of s**** harassment and said he created a hostile work environment. Baldoni later filed a defamation lawsuit against both Lively and Reynolds, but that case did not move forward. On November 12, Baldoni asked the court to dismiss Lively’s harassment claims. That case is scheduled to be heard in March.
