Rami Malek Shuts Down Rumors About a ‘Mr. Robot’ Comeback
Rami Malek has made it clear that fans should not expect a return of Mr. Robot. The award-winning series, created by Sam Esmail, aired on USA Network from 2015 to 2019 and followed Malek’s character, Elliot Alderson, a cybersecurity engineer who becomes involved with a secretive hacker group called fsociety.
The show explored Elliot’s complicated relationship with the mysterious Mr. Robot, played by Christian Slater, and the consequences of their major hack against the mega-corporation E Corp.
Since the show ended with its fourth season in December 2019, there has been little movement on continuing Elliot’s story. While Mr. Robot remains highly influential and has a devoted cult following, the series concluded definitively. Esmail has previously confirmed that the story of Elliot Alderson is complete.
Malek addressed the topic during a recent panel for Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles, where he discussed his new film, Nuremberg, directed by James Vanderbilt. He revealed that he and Esmail have talked about working together again, but clarified the conversation did not involve revisiting Mr. Robot. “Sam and I just talked about working together again, but that’s it,” Malek said. When asked directly if a return to Mr. Robot was in the works, he responded simply, “No.”
This puts to rest any speculation about a reboot, revival, or continuation of the series. Malek and Esmail may collaborate on new projects, but Elliot Alderson’s story will remain as fans remember it.
