Borderlands 4 is officially coming out on September 12, 2025, and the long-awaited mainline sequel has fans very, very excited. The fans are eagerly awaiting the game’s release after seeing the released images and videos.

But while the game is projected to do well at this point, a lingering question about the game’s price still remains, especially with the market being as volatile as it is now, and many publishers raising their prices.

The game’s boss, Randy Pitchford, recently caused even more controversy when he said that “real fans” would pay even $80 for the game, but he now claims that it was not a stab at the fans and that it was a misunderstanding.

In case you don’t remember, Pitchford was recently criticized by numerous fans and journalists for his comments on the price of the Borderlands 4 game. He responded to a fan asking about the price (and saying that $80 would be too much and would result in the game failing) with the following reply:

A) Not my call. B) If you’re a real fan, you’ll find a way to make it happen. My local game store had Starflight for Sega Genesis for $80 in 1991 when I was just out of high school working minimum wage at an ice cream parlor in Pismo Beach and I found a way to make it happen.

Now, about a week later, Pitchford – after noticing all that backlash – decided to go back to the issue, revealing that it was all a misunderstanding in a lengthy social media post, which you can see here:

As you can see, Pitchford explained his previous remark in great detail, and while this is a clear attempt to lessen the damage done, we still don’t know what the price of the game will be, so it remains to be seen how the fans will react when the game officially comes out.
