Well, that was fast. Just three days after Reacher premiered on Amazon Prime Video, it has been renewed for a second season.
Reacher ranked top 5 most-watched series ever in the United States and globally over a 24-hour period and for this reason, Amazon has decided to gift it a renewal. All 8 episodes of Reacher dropped at once. Amazon said that the series was among their high rated original series with subscribers giving it an average rating of 4.7 out of 5.
The first season is based on Lee Child’s first Jack Reacher novel called Killing Floor.
Written by Nick Santora, the series tells the story of Jack Reacher, a veteran military police investigator who has recently re-entered civilian life and gets caught up in a murder. While drifting around, Reacher arrives in a small town called Margrave in Georgia and finds a community destitute after its first homicide in 20 years.
He is arrested for the murder with witnesses placing him at the scene of the crime. Reacher has to work with the police to prove his innocence and in the process, a deep-seated conspiracy begins to emerge.
The cast includes Malcolm Goodwin, Willa Fitzgerald, Chris Webster, Hugh Thompson, Maria Stern, Harvey Guillen, Kristin Kreuk, Currie Graham among others.
Santora serves as showrunner and executive producer along with Lee Child, Don Granger, and Scott Sullivan. For Skydance, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Bill Bost executive produce.
In reaction to the news Jenifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios said,
“The phenomenal debut of Reacher is a testament to Lee Child’s creation of one of entertainment’s most well-known heroes, Nick Santora’s original approach to the storytelling, Alan’s brilliant embodiment of the character, and the dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera to make such an undeniably bingeworthy series. The global impact of Reacher makes it one of Prime Video’s biggest series debuts, and we can’t wait to bring fans a second season of their new favorite show.”
Santora expressed the happiness of everyone involved in the show and applauded Amazon, Skydance, and Paramount for being great partners in the project. Child also echoed the same sentiments.
