Record Breaker: This Game Becomes Most-Nominated Title Ever at The Game Awards 2025 With 12 Nods
The Game Awards has revealed its full list of nominees for 2025, and “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” has taken the spotlight after earning 12 nominations. This makes the game the most-nominated title in the entire 11-year history of the event.
The show, hosted once again by Geoff Keighley, will take place on Dec. 11 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
It will run for three hours and include awards, new game reveals, trailers, and live performances. The Game Awards also confirmed that cast members from Amazon’s “Fallout” series will appear as presenters during the broadcast.
This year’s ceremony includes 29 awards, including the top honor, Game of the Year. As usual, the event will stream for free on platforms like YouTube, Twitch, X, TikTok and more. Last year’s show brought in more than 154 million livestreams, and for the first time, the 2025 show will also stream on Amazon’s Prime Video.
“Clair Obscur: Expedition 33,” developed by Sandfall Interactive, has been one of the standout releases of the year. The role-playing game, released in April for PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S, quickly drew praise for its style, story and dark Belle Époque world. It mixes turn-based combat with real-time timing mechanics and brought in over 5 million sales by October, with critics praising nearly every aspect of it.
The studio behind the game began developing it in 2019, led by Guillaume Broche, who left Ubisoft to form Sandfall. The project was inspired by classic Japanese RPGs, and the team aimed to create a modern, high-quality turn-based game. Development first started in Unreal Engine 4 before moving to Unreal Engine 5 to take advantage of new visual tools.
With its huge nomination count, the game is expected to be one of the biggest titles to watch at the 2025 awards show.
