Reportedly, Dev Patel Turned Down the Opportunity To Play Sentry in the ‘Thunderbolts’
The much-discussed MCU project ‘Thunderbolts’ has been a hot topic lately. In September, Kevin Feige unveiled the return of David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko, reprising their respective roles in the film. Yelena Belova was also confirmed to join the Thunderbolts team.
The casting for the upcoming movie has generated significant buzz. Initially, Steven Yeun was set to play Sentry, but the choice was met with fan skepticism due to disparities between Yeun’s appearance and the comics-accurate depiction of Sentry. Yeun eventually withdrew, citing scheduling conflicts post-SAG-AFTRA strike resolution, leading the studio to search for a new Bob Reynolds. Recent reports suggest Austin Abrams has been offered the role, and amid the leaked news, Dev Patel’s name surfaced. Rumors indicate Patel declined the role of Sentry.
Dev Patel, known for his breakthrough in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ (2008), where he earned a BAFTA Award for Best Actor, seems uninterested in adding ‘Thunderbolts’ to his repertoire. The speculations originated from the notable leaker CanWeGetSomeToast following the news of Abrams potentially taking on the role of Sentry.
Interestingly, when Patel’s name surfaced in MCU discussions, fans quickly suggested he would be an ideal fit for the role of Reed Richards. Fans even urged Feige to reconsider the casting of Pedro Pascal, which had received a mixed reception at best.
