‘Riverdale’ Star Camila Mendes Turns up the Heat in Fiery Red Prada at Vogue World: Milano

Milan Fashion Week has delivered plenty of standout moments this season, and Camila Mendes made sure she was one of them at Vogue World: Milano. The fifth edition of the event took place on September 22 at the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, transforming the historic landmark into a full-scale fashion production.

The show was built as a staged history of Italian craftsmanship, blending traditional techniques with modern technology across several acts. According to ComicBasics, its underlying message was that even as technology reshapes fashion, human craftsmanship still gives it meaning.

Among the guests who stole the spotlight, Mendes arrived in a vivid red Prada ensemble. CelebMafia described the outfit as a cropped top, knee-length skirt, and matching shawl, with the shawl worn low across the shoulders and tied at the center of the chest. Dark red beaded floral embellishment ran along its upper edge, while the skirt featured a gathered waistband and softly rounded hem shaped by side ties.

She finished the look with a structured black Prada mini bag and pointed black pumps, adding a sharp contrast to the saturated red. Mendes kept her dark hair sleek and tucked behind her ears, leaving the shawl and shoulder line fully on display.

Mendes also posed alongside Charli D’Amelio, and Vogue France had fun with the pairing on X. The magazine compared the duo to the hearts and spades of a deck of cards, with D’Amelio in black Prada and a beret and Mendes in flaming red.

Fiction Horizon noted that her fiery look stood in deliberate contrast to more understated choices on the night, such as Molly Gordon’s little black dress. The outlet argued that standing out among such a stacked guest list required exactly the kind of confident styling Mendes brought.

Not everyone was sold on the silhouette. Fashion bloggers Tom + Lorenzo were blunt, criticizing the gathered waistband and hem and calling the combination of crop top and shawl weird.

Online reactions were similarly mixed. Some commenters felt the skirt looked unfinished, but many agreed the red was incredibly flattering on her. CelebMafia landed on the more positive side, rating the look 8 out of 10 for its strong red-on-red layering and the contrast between the decorative draping and compact black accessories.

The reaction on social media was overwhelmingly admiring. One fan replying to the Film Updates post wrote that while everyone rightly praised Lili Reinhart during ‘Riverdale’, Mendes’ presence was something else entirely.

That comparison feels especially timely, since Mendes’ former ‘Riverdale’ co-star Madelaine Petsch also took part in the night, walking the runway during the event’s final act. Madelyn Cline, meanwhile, made her runway debut during Act III.

Mendes has built a steady reputation for polished red carpet moments. She previously attended the 2024 Met Gala alongside designer Joseph Altuzarra and later reunited with Reinhart and Petsch at the premiere of ‘The Strangers: Chapter 1’.

Her Vogue World appearance comes after a busy year that included ‘Masters of the Universe’, and her bold choice in Milan shows she’s more than comfortable taking fashion risks on a global stage.
