Robert De Niro Urges Americans to ‘Resist’ Trump, Warns: “He’s Destroying the Country”
Robert De Niro is once again speaking out against President Donald Trump, this time in an emotional podcast interview.
During a recent appearance on “The Best People With Nicole Wallace” podcast, the Oscar-winning actor did not hold back. He said the country is in danger and called on Americans to stand up. “The story is our country, and Trump is destroying it, and who knows what his reasons are, but it’s sick, it’s f**** up,” De Niro said. “We have to save the country.”
The comments were made during a long conversation with host Nicole Wallace. At several points, De Niro described Trump as a direct threat to the United States. “Let’s not kid ourselves. It’s that simple. Everybody has to stick together to get them out and get back on track,” he said, calling Trump the “enemy of this country.”
De Niro stressed that change will not happen unless people take action. He repeated the word “resist” several times during the interview. “People have to resist, resist, resist, resist, resist. That’s the only way. There’s no magic. There’s no nothing – people are not going to go away, even if Trump dies for some reason by having an illness or something,” he said. He added that parts of the political movement around Trump would still remain. “That’s the scary part. It has to be neutralized by the people.”
Near the end of the podcast, Wallace brought up De Niro’s 1981 Academy Award speech for “Raging Bull.” She mentioned how he thanked many people and has always supported others in his work. When she asked why that matters to him, De Niro became emotional. “You have to — you have to lift people up,” he said as his voice broke. “You have to bring them together. Period. You can’t divide people. You can’t win that way.”
He continued by saying that division only weakens the country. “It’s a no-win situation, and look what we have, look who we have there, it’s almost like a destiny to have this thing there, destroying… attempting to destroy this country and maybe not even understanding why. So it’s up to us to protect the country.”
This is not the first time De Niro has spoken out. In October 2025, he appeared in a video shared on TikTok by the political activist group Indivisible. In that clip, he encouraged people to join the No Kings protests. “The original No Kings protest was 250 years ago,” he said, pointing to the American fight against King George III. “Now we have a would-be king who wants to take it away: King Donald the First. F*** that. We’re rising up again, this time, nonviolently raising our voices to declare: No Kings.”
De Niro has been one of the most outspoken voices in Hollywood when it comes to criticizing Trump. His latest interview makes it clear that his views have not changed.
