Robert Downey Jr. Leads a Wakandan Rally in New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Ticket Promo

Marvel’s marketing machine is in full swing for ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘, and the studio has been pushing ticket sales earlier than ever. Back in July, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Disney would open domestic ticket sales on July 20 for Infinity Vision theaters, a full 5 months before release.

Disney created the Infinity Vision brand after Warner Bros. locked down IMAX screens for ‘Dune: Part Three’ for 3 weeks following both films’ December 18 debut, as The Hollywood Reporter reported. By August 15, around D23, Disney expanded ticket sales to all theaters, alongside new footage and a fresh poster.

Now Marvel is keeping the momentum going with a playful new promotional spot. A 17-second clip shared by Marvel Studios Philippines features Robert Downey Jr., Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Winston Duke, and Tenoch Huerta hyping up the film, with on-screen text announcing that tickets are on sale now and that the movie hits cinemas there on December 16.

The promo puts a spotlight on some of the film’s most intriguing players. According to Fandango’s cast listing, Wright returns as Shuri and Duke as M’Baku, while Huerta is back as Namor, bringing both Wakanda and Talokan into the multiversal conflict.

Rudd’s Scott Lang/Ant-Man rounds out the group, while Downey takes on the film’s biggest new challenge. The former Iron Man star plays Doctor Doom, the villain at the center of the story.

Joe Russo teased at CinemaCon that Doom isn’t simply a villain but one of Marvel’s most complex characters, describing him as always being 3 moves ahead. That’s high praise, and it suggests Downey’s return could be one of the film’s biggest draws.

The group in the promo is just a small slice of an enormous cast. Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Sebastian Stan, Simu Liu, Tom Hiddleston, Hayley Atwell, and Channing Tatum also star.

The film leans heavily into ‘X-Men’ history too, with Ian McKellen as Magneto, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the story sends heroes from 3 distinct universes on a collision course against an existential threat.

The Philippines’ December 16 date mirrors a similar early launch in the UK, where Disney recently confirmed that the film will open 2 days ahead of its December 18 slot. That news should come as a relief to the UK fan eagerly waiting to book seats.

In the United States, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ remains set for December 18, when it will face off directly with ‘Dune: Part Three’. The early buzz is already strong, with TheWrap reporting that presales have passed $50 million.

Marvel is also giving fans a way to prepare. ‘Avengers: Endgame: Encore’ returns to theaters on September 25 with new footage and a bridge that ties directly into ‘Doomsday’, making the re-release a key part of the build-up.

Between early ticket sales, cast-led promos, and a nostalgic re-release, Marvel is clearly treating this December like a major cinematic event. With Downey leading the charge as Doom, it’s shaping up to be one of the biggest box office showdowns of the year.
