Rowan Atkinson Shares His All-Time Favorite Project
Once during a Reddit AMA, Rowan Atkinson opened up about the project that has meant the most to him throughout his career.
When asked which role he found the most rewarding, Atkinson didn’t hesitate to name Mr. Bean, citing both financial and creative reasons.
“Most rewarding… financially (if I’m being honest)… is Mr. Bean. And perhaps creatively rewarding as well. Because I find him a fascinating character being essentially a child trapped in a man’s body. And it’s always fun to be childish!” Atkinson shared.
The Mr. Bean character, which Atkinson first brought to life in the early 1990s, became a global phenomenon. Critics praised the show for its clever mix of visual comedy and universal humor that didn’t rely heavily on dialogue, making it accessible to audiences around the world.
Over the years, Mr. Bean has been celebrated for influencing modern physical comedy and inspiring a generation of comedians who admire Atkinson’s timing, expressions, and unique ability to convey humor without words.
Beyond television, Mr. Bean expanded into films, animated series, and even internet memes, solidifying his place in popular culture. The character’s mix of innocence, mischief, and clever problem-solving has made him an enduring favorite across generations, with fans still discovering the show decades after its original release.
For Atkinson, the combination of creative freedom and the ability to reach audiences worldwide made Mr. Bean especially meaningful. He described the role as an opportunity to explore both the genius and the silliness of the character, saying it was “always fun to be childish.”
It’s clear that Mr. Bean holds a special place not only in Atkinson’s career but also in entertainment history, with a legacy that continues to resonate with viewers of all ages.
