Rumors: ‘Shang-Chi 2’ Receives a Massive Production Update

Share:

Marvel Studios and Disney are planning to work on several new projects, even though they’ve said they will make fewer movies and shows after some of their recent ones didn’t do as well as hoped. Despite this, there’s a lot of excitement for a few upcoming projects, including the sequel to ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings.’

By December 2021, they began working on the next ‘Shang-Chi’ movie, with Cretton coming back to direct and write, and Liu expected to play Shang-Chi again. Liu wants to dive deeper into his character’s adventures with the Ten Rings and how he fits into the bigger Marvel universe. But by July 2023, Liu wasn’t sure when they would make the movie. He said it would come out after ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ which was moved to 2026 instead of 2025. He hoped to share more information soon.

Now, according to Production Weekly, a source that’s usually right, ‘Shang-Chi 2’ is set to start production in 2025.

The update on ‘Shang-Chi 2’ isn’t very exciting. A lot of the info seems old, like the producer names from the first movie. But, Victoria Alonso’s exit from Marvel hints some details might be out of date. It lists Cretton as returning to write and direct, with Simu Liu back as Shang-Chi.

If Marvel Studios is looking to change how they release movies, going ahead with ‘Shang-Chi 2’ seems smart since the first movie did well. Plus, with ‘Avengers 5’ delayed to 2026, there’s extra time for ‘Shang-Chi 2’ to get ready.
