Rumors Suggest Who Will Lead the X-Men in the MCU’s Next Phase
Marvel Studios is already planning the next chapter of the MCU, and it looks like mutants are finally joining the action. In July, Kevin Feige revealed that the studio is “already well into development” on the next three phases following the Multiverse Saga, which ends with Secret Wars. He also said Phase Seven will be “directly impacted” by the events of Phase Six.
Feige hinted that Secret Wars will introduce a “new age of mutants,” bringing the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Fans will see familiar actors from previous X-Men movies return, including Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and James Marsden as Cyclops. Patrick Stewart and Kelsey Grammer are also reprising their roles. Reports suggest Feige has a 10-year plan for the X-Men in the MCU.
A key question among fans is who will lead the team. Industry insider Alex Perez recently suggested that Cyclops and Jean Grey will serve as co-leaders. Perez also mentioned that other classic X-Men like Angel, Beast, Gambit, Rogue, and Nightcrawler could be part of the team.
Earlier rumors indicated that Marvel plans to bring some X-Men to the big screen who haven’t been adapted before. Michael Lesslie, who is working on the MCU’s X-Men reboot, reportedly pitched a version of the team inspired by the X-Men ’97 animated series.
