Russell Brand Takes Brutal Swipe at Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau Over Their Rumored Romance
Russell Brand has spoken out about his ex-wife Katy Perry’s new relationship, and his comments are now making headlines.
The comedian addressed the topic while appearing on stage at a Turning Point USA event in Phoenix on December 18.
During his speech, Brand brought up Perry and her reported romance with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. According to video clips shared online from the event, Brand did not hold back.
“Look, Katy Perry, I was married to her. I love her still,” Brand told the crowd. “I was okay with Orlando Bloom, but Justin Trudeau? C’mon, man! Don’t put me in a category with that guy! That globalist stooge.”
Brand and Perry were married from 2010 to 2012. Brand filed for divorce, and Perry later revealed in her documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me that she found out about the split just before going on stage for a concert. The two have not been together for more than a decade.
After her divorce, Perry began dating actor Orlando Bloom. The pair met in 2016, got engaged in 2019, and share a daughter, Daisy Dove, who was born in August 2020. In June 2025, Perry and Bloom ended their engagement after nine years together.
Perry’s personal life has been back in the spotlight due to her rumored relationship with Justin Trudeau. The singer and the former Canadian leader were first linked in July after being seen together in Montreal. At the time, a source told PEOPLE magazine that the two had an “instant connection.”
“They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes,” the source said. “She is traveling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada.”
The source also added that “music is one of many things they can share,” and said both are idealists with similar views about wanting to make a difference.
Perry and Trudeau later made their first public appearance as a couple in October at a cabaret show at Crazy Horse Paris, where they celebrated Perry’s birthday.
