Russell Crowe, 61, Explains Why He Won’t Marry His Partner, 28 Years Younger
In an interview with Australia’s 60 Minutes that aired on Sunday, Nov. 2, the 61-year-old actor talked about his relationship with girlfriend Britney Theriot, who is 33. He made it clear that marriage is not part of his plans.
“All these reports keep coming out saying that Britney and I are engaged and I’m going to get married again,” Crowe told journalist Karl Stefanovic. “No.”
Crowe shared that he and Theriot are very happy together and enjoy each other’s company. “We are very, very good friends, and we have a wonderful relationship. My life is so joyous and happy at the moment — why ruin that with a wedding?”
The actor also reflected on his past marriage to Danielle Spencer, which lasted nine years. “Why would I go through… I’ve been married once. I know how it can go and where it can go. So I don’t need to go to that place.”
When Stefanovic joked, “Where’s the romance in you?” Crowe replied, “Do you know how romantic it is to be boyfriend and girlfriend? Wherever you are in the world, you know?” He explained that being in a happy, respectful relationship is enough for him. “Having that slight thing, that means you got to keep respecting each other and waking up with a smile. And we do — this is something that is fascinating to me — we do everything together. We’re very happy, man. It’s a very positive life.”
Crowe ended by saying again that marriage isn’t for him. “But no, I’m not going to get married again. Doing it once is cool, great, you know. But I don’t want to do it again.”
