Russell T. Davies Teases Big Role for Mrs. Flood in Upcoming Season: ” I promise you, genuine, fantastic reveals.”

The Doctor Who series has been known for its mysteries, and that is one of the most appealing aspects of the franchise as a whole. Each showrunner brought something of their own to their run, and Russell T. Davies is no exception.

Among the more interesting mysteries of his run is the enigmatic Mrs. Flood, a strange old lady who definitely knows more than she should, or even could know. She debuted earlier, but Davies teases a much bigger role for her.

Played by Anita Dobson, Mrs. Flood is a character whose fourth-wall-breaking and debut “haven’t you ever seen a TARDIS before?” line caused a stir among the fans, and Davies teases some major revelations for her in the upcoming season.

Mrs. Flood is, as we have said, a major enigma, but that was intended from the start. Davies imagined her as a head-scratcher and she definitely became one, but in the best way possible. And while we couldn’t really pinpoint to what was “wrong” with her, Davies reveals more truths in the upcoming season.

We’re not the only ones who wants answers, Davies says, as the Doctor is also “desperate to find out” the “spectacular answers” Davies has for us. And while the actors already know anything, we’re still in the dark, although Gatwa, who is playing the Doctor, said: “We found out on the day of getting the script, I won’t tell you what script number but it was so exciting. I couldn’t have expected it!”

As for Davies, he provided a bit more in terms of details about the creation process. “I was always in two minds. You sort of judge how things are going,” he began. “From the moment we cast Anita though, I knew we would do a lot with her. She came in initially to just do one episode, but she was lovely and completely up for it. You kind of evolve it as you’re going along with the actor’s participation.”

He ultimately explained how Mrs. Flood is going to have a big role. “Once it reaches the end of season 1, where she clearly states her intentions on a rooftop, declaring that she will bring the Doctor absolute terror, you properly lock her into place,” he explains. “She does crop up this year in every single episode and every time she does it to absolute delight. She was only in three or four episodes last time, so she’s a much more constant presence this time, which builds and builds to, I promise you, genuine, fantastic reveals.”

And all of this means we’re in for a very exciting season!
