Ryan Coogler Gives Fans a Major Update on His Next Big Project
Ryan Coogler has confirmed that he is heading back to Wakanda for his next film. He shared the news during a panel for his movie Sinners at Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles event. While speaking onstage, he told Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr. that the third Black Panther movie is officially what he is working on next.
Coogler joked a bit before giving a direct answer. When Fleming Jr. asked him about Black Panther 3, he said, “If it was anybody but you, I would say, ‘I can neither confirm or deny.’ But we’re working on it hard. … Yeah, it’s the next movie.”

Talks about another Black Panther film have been happening for years. Back in 2022, Coogler and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige discussed the idea.
By early 2023, cast members like Letitia Wright said they believed a third movie would happen but that everyone needed time to rest before starting again.
As development continued, Coogler also began exploring new casting choices. In late 2024, he spoke with Denzel Washington about a role in the new film. Coogler later confirmed that Washington would join the project.
There were also changes behind the camera. In 2024, longtime Marvel producer Nate Moore announced that he would leave the studio this year to work independently. Even with that decision, he still plans to return as a producer for the third Black Panther film.
Now that Coogler has said publicly that this is his next movie, it is clear that the third installment is moving forward.
