Ryan Reynolds Drags Johnny Depp and Amber Heard Into Justin Baldoni–Blake Lively Drama

Johnny Depp has inexplicably wandered into the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni drama and due to revealed text messages fired off by Ryan Reynolds. New legal documents obtained by TMZ feature texts between Ryan and his talent agent, Warren Zavala, and they are chatting about Lively and Baldoni’s PR strategies when Ryan name-drops Depp.

The exchange, from August 2024, shows the inner circle’s deep anxiety over the shifting public narrative surrounding the film It Ends With Us. Zavala says of Baldoni, It’s this guys incredible ego. It feels like he’s laying a trap if her truth surfaces, while promoting a narrative digitally.

Ryan replies, Yeah. But honestly, someone is just gonna tell a journalist the real deal and it’s gonna blow up in his face. It appears the Deadpool star believed the truth would eventually dismantle whatever strategy Baldoni was allegedly employing.

Zavala responds, “One would think. But the truth does become muddled sometimes. That’s why I’m concerned if he’s laying a trap. I hope this fraud s** weasel is exposed. I just want to protect our downside. The movie working is everything. Let’s see if the noise subsides.”

Ryan’s agent then sends him a link to a story about Baldoni and Lively fighting over the final cut to It Ends With Us and says, This is all spin. I think we let it burn. This suggests the team was initially debating whether to engage with the growing rumors or stay silent.

Ryan shoots back, How’d that work out for Depp?? He is referencing the Depp and Amber Heard drama from back in the day, where Johnny sued her for defamation, leading to the televised trial that launched a thousand TikToks.

Zavala answers, Not well. Cratered both of them ultimately. This shows a clear fear that if the Lively-Baldoni tension wasn’t handled perfectly, it could lead to a mutually assured destruction of their public images.

Ryan’s agent proceeds to call Baldoni an egotistical s*** weasel with a god complex and Ryan rips Baldoni as a human rounding error. These insults reveal just how personal and heated the rift had become behind closed doors.

Ultimately, Blake and Justin’s war has now repeated, and arguably topped, the public drama of Johnny and Amber’s battle. What started as “creative differences” over a book adaptation has spiraled into a high-stakes legal and reputational war.

The Depp comparison is interesting because while his career initially took a hit, Depp’s career does seem to be on the rebound with major studio films on the horizon. He has recently starred in the French period drama Jeanne du Barry and has been cast in the upcoming thriller Day Drinker alongside Penélope Cruz.

Depp has also opened an international art exhibit and has seemingly been welcomed back to Hollywood with appearances at the San Sebastian Film Festival and Cannes. This recovery might be exactly what Ryan and Blake are hoping for if the current legal filings don’t go their way.

It Ends With Us is a 2024 romantic drama based on the Colleen Hoover novel, which follows a woman’s journey through a turbulent relationship and domestic abuse. The film stars Blake Lively as Lily Bloom and Justin Baldoni as Ryle Kincaid, with Brandon Sklenar playing the childhood love interest, Atlas Corrigan.
