Ryan Reynolds has opened up about what could come next for Deadpool, and it sounds like things might not go the way fans expect.

After the huge success of Deadpool & Wolverine, which made over $1.3 billion worldwide, many people assumed another solo Deadpool movie would quickly follow. But that doesn’t seem to be the case right now. There are no confirmed plans yet, and Reynolds is also not expected to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, which is said to have a more serious tone.

Reynolds has been thinking about a different kind of project. Instead of another solo film, he has been working on an idea that could include several X-Men characters. However, this is still just something he’s been developing on his own, and he hasn’t officially pitched it to Marvel yet.

In a recent interview with Today, Reynolds shared more about his thoughts. He made it clear that he doesn’t see Deadpool leading his own movie again. “I have some stuff written,” Reynolds said, “but I don’t think I’m ever going to center him again. He’s a supporting character, he’s a guy that is great in a group.”

This lines up with what he has said before about wanting Deadpool to be part of a larger team, possibly alongside the Avengers or the X-Men. At the same time, he has also said that putting Deadpool into a normal team setup could take away what makes the character special.

Because of that, it seems more likely that Deadpool could show up in a group like X-Force or alongside some X-Men, rather than in a traditional solo story. Still, nothing is confirmed, and Marvel is already working on its own X-Men reboot, which is rumored to focus on a younger cast.

There are also bigger changes coming to the Marvel universe. Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to act as a kind of reset for the MCU. This could bring in new versions of well-known characters while keeping some familiar faces around.

For now, Deadpool’s future is still uncertain, but one thing is clear from Reynolds himself — the next chapter won’t look like the old ones.
