Ryan Reynolds Teases New Deadpool Ensemble Project: “Iām Writing a Little Something Right Now”
Deadpool & Wolverine was the MCU’s most successful project in quite some time. The movie earned over a billion dollars and was widely praised for being incredibly entertaining. More importantly, it accomplished a key taskāit introduced the concept of the X-Men into the MCU.
Following the film’s massive success, itās clear that Deadpool & Wolverine will receive a sequel in one form or another. Itās also highly likely that both Deadpool and Wolverine will appear in future Marvel projects.
Now, Ryan Reynolds gave us an unexpected update regarding the potential Deadpool project. Reynolds recently showed up at the Time 100 summit and was asked what he sees in the future for Deadpool.
Reynolds once again confirmed that Deadpool works best as a supporting character, and once again confirmed that before he got the story to work, he pitched 18 different stories to Disney before his idea was accepted.
Then he confirmed that he is currently writing something: āIām writing a little something right now. Itās an ensemble. But, you know, I like that it’s isolated. Deadpool becomes an Avengers, X-Men? We’re at the end. That’s his wish fulfillment, you can’t give him that.”
After the movie came out, Ryan Reynolds said he wasnāt sure when he would play Deadpool again. In the film, there’s a quick scene where Deadpool is dying and held by a crying Thor. One of the writers, Paul Wernick, said this scene might not be used again, but it could still be part of the MCUās future plans.
In November 2024, Marvel boss Kevin Feige said the studio was looking for ways to bring back Deadpool and Wolverine in future Marvel movies.
The next month, Reynolds shared that he had some ideas. He said he would like to see Deadpool team up with the Avengers or the X-Men, but not actually join them. He believes Deadpool is best in team-up or supporting roles, especially with Wolverine.
Reynolds also said he doesnāt want to make another movie where Deadpool is the main focus. He thinks doing that again would feel repetitive.
