Sadie Sink’s New Hooded Look In ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Just Reignited The Jean Grey Debate
Anticipation for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ keeps climbing by the week, and Sony has given fans plenty of reasons to stay glued to their timelines. The cast took part in Fandango’s Big Ticket sit down to kick off press for the film, and the story finds Peter Parker four years removed from ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ now living entirely alone after voluntarily erasing himself from the lives of those he loves, devoted full time to protecting a city that no longer knows his name even as a strange new physical evolution puts his own existence at risk.
That premise comes wrapped in a stacked cast. Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo all star, with Sink having joined the lineup back in early 2023, kicking off a fandom guessing game that has only intensified since. Unlike nearly every other name on that call sheet, Marvel has never confirmed who exactly Sink is playing.
That secrecy is precisely what made a fresh image making the rounds online so irresistible. A post shared by the account kepleravocado offered what it billed as a first look at Sink in the film, showing her wrapped in a tan hood with a full face covering inside a dim, sawdust filled workshop, one gloved hand raised as though channeling something unseen.
The silhouette tracks closely with footage already circulating from the movie’s marketing. The second trailer gave the clearest glimpse yet of Sink’s hooded character using what looks like mind control powers, and a separate shot suggests her character is responsible for unleashing a savage version of the Hulk during a tense tank chase sequence.
None of that footage has slowed the loudest theory swirling around her casting, which holds that Sink is playing Jean Grey ahead of the X-Men’s long awaited arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Industry insider Daniel Richtman recently stated he could confirm Sink as Jean Grey with total certainty, a claim that spread fast given Sink’s reported return for ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ a project many believe will help launch the franchise’s mutant era.
Sink herself has stayed firmly locked down on the subject. Speaking in Fandango’s Big Ticket interview, she described joining the franchise as surreal before adding with a laugh, “I really like the character, and that’s all I’ll say.”
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ swings into theaters on July 31, and until then every blurry hoodie photo and trailer frame will keep getting picked apart. Does that hood look like Jean Grey to you, or is Marvel quietly building toward an even bigger swerve for Sadie Sink’s mystery character?
