Deadline first reported that Neill will appear in Sony and Nintendo’s live-action ‘Legend of Zelda,’ joining new cast additions Yvonne Strahovski and Dichen Lachman. Sources indicated the project, which wrapped filming in April, will mark one of Neill’s final screen performances, if not the last, though it’s not yet clear exactly who he plays. Strahovski, known for ‘The Handmaid’s Tale,’ is reportedly set for an unspecified queenly role, and some fans have speculated Neill could be playing the King of Hyrule opposite her.

The ‘Legend of Zelda’ film already had a starry foundation before this update. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth was cast as Link and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda, with Wes Ball, known for directing ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,’ at the helm. Uli Latukefu is reportedly playing the villainous Ganondorf, rounding out a cast that blends newcomers with recognizable names. Lachman, familiar to audiences from ‘Severance,’ will play Impa, Princess Zelda’s bodyguard and advisor.

Neill’s family had described his death as sudden and unexpected, coming after his cancer had reportedly been successfully treated, and he had remained notably active without outward signs of slowing down. Alongside running his winery Two Paddocks, Neill had filmed four projects back to back over the past year, all set for release within a short window of each other.

‘The Legend of Zelda’ is one of three movies in which Neill is set to make a posthumous appearance, alongside ‘Godzilla x Kong Supernova’ and a romantic comedy titled ‘The Last Resort.’ Depending on when ‘The Last Resort’ arrives in theaters, ‘The Legend of Zelda’ could end up being the true closing chapter of his career. Beyond ‘Jurassic Park,’ Neill earned lasting acclaim for roles in ‘Possession,’ ‘In the Mouth of Madness,’ and ‘Event Horizon.’
