Samara Weaving’s ‘Villain’ Top Has ‘X-Men’ Fans Buzzing About Emma Frost’s Dark Side
Few castings have sparked as much excitement this year as Samara Weaving joining Marvel Studios’ ‘X-Men’ reboot as Emma Frost. Directed by Jake Schreier, the film is scheduled for release on May 5, 2028, with principal photography set to begin next year.
Weaving has embraced the role with obvious enthusiasm. At the D23 Disney Entertainment Showcase in Anaheim on August 14, she channeled the White Queen in a white off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood corset minidress, sharing photos afterward with captions that spelled out her character’s name.
Now Weaving’s latest look has fans reading between the lines once again. In newly shared photos posted on October 5, the actress poses in a glossy royal blue fitted top emblazoned with the word “VILLAIN” across the chest.
The rest of the outfit keeps things sleek. Weaving tucked the shiny short-sleeved top into dark, high-waisted wide-leg trousers, cinched with a black belt and gold buckle. She finished the look with black cat-eye sunglasses and loose, tousled blonde waves. Posing beside an ornate gilded fence, she struck confident, playful poses, including one with her arm raised to her hair.
The photos come just days after Weaving was spotted out and about in Paris during Fashion Week. Over the weekend, she was photographed in the city wearing a fitted grey T-shirt, loose black trousers and a green cap, carrying a brown shoulder bag.
The word on her top has struck a nerve because of what Weaving has already teased. In August, she shared a poolside photo of herself reading a stack of Emma Frost comics, playfully telling fans not to read into it.

That stack included Emma’s solo series, ‘Astonishing X-Men,’ and the Krakoan Age-era Hellfire Gala storylines, along with a panel featuring a villainous Emma as part of the Hellfire Club. Those choices fueled speculation that Marvel might introduce the character as a villain first.
In the comics, Emma began as an aristocratic Hellfire Club villain who preyed on young mutants long before she became one of the X-Men’s leaders. A “VILLAIN” top, in that context, feels like more than a coincidence to many fans.
Weaving’s connection to the role goes back even further. Photos she posted on Instagram in October 2024, styled by her longtime collaborator Jordan Dorso, resurfaced after her casting and showed her dressed head to toe in white, a dead ringer for the character’s signature style.

The Direct described those images as an audition she seemingly taped almost 2 years early. Emma Frost has also been a major figure in the comics as one of Cyclops’ most significant love interests, having famously won him away from Jean Grey during Grant Morrison’s ‘New X-Men’ run.
On screen, the character was previously played by January Jones in 2011’s ‘X-Men: First Class’. Weaving’s version is set to bring the telepath into the MCU for the first time. Weaving’s latest photos also continue a long-running relationship with fashion. She has attended Louis Vuitton’s show in 2021 and 2022, as well as Bulgari’s collection launch in 2024.
With the ‘X-Men’ reboot still years away, Weaving’s social media is likely to remain fans’ best source of Emma Frost hints. Whether or not the “VILLAIN” top was intentional, it has certainly done its job of keeping the conversation going.
Do you think Samara Weaving's "VILLAIN" top is a hint that Emma Frost will start out as a villain in Marvel's ‘X-Men’ reboot?
