There are plenty of reasons to believe that Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles is going to be one of the shows that will turn out to be gold for Netflix. After all, there have been plenty of underrated animated shows that have made their way to Netflix’s vast library. So, with that said, let’s take a good look at what we know about Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles.
Samurai Rabbit Release Date
Netflix has been looking for hidden gems all over the world of fiction and has actually had a lot of success finding plenty of different stories that could be translated into a series. One such fictional work that has been around for as long as anyone can remember but is set to make its on-screen debut is Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles.
First announced back in July of 2020, Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles is the adaptation of the comic book series entitled Usagi Yojimbo by Japanese-American Author Stan Sakai. The series has been running for over 35 years as it has been around since the 80s. And the Usagi Yojimbo comic book series has a niche market that could potentially become bigger due to the Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles series that will be making its way to Netflix pretty soon.
The announcement was first made by Stan Sakai himself, as his beloved work is now on its way to our screens as an animated series. In the announcement, Sakai said:
“It is wonderful to expand the Usagi universe by collaborating with so many talented people. I am working with an awesome team, and I’m looking forward to finally seeing an Usagi series on the screen! I thank my wonderful fans, friends, and family for their support and encouragement over the last 35+ years.”
While the show may be based on the Usagi Yojimbo comic books by Stan Sakai, the showrunners of the series are Candie and Doug Langdale. They were the very same people who are working on Puss in Boots and Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness from DreamWorks. The Langdales also worked on Netflix’s Maya and the Three.
Meanwhile, Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles involves numerous other production companies, such as Gaumont, Dark Horse Entertainment, Atomic Monster, and 88 Pictures. Of course, Stan Sakai was also involved in the project that sought to give new life to his work.
“It is a pleasure working with Gaumont and Netflix,” Sakai said. “I am involved in each step of the production and am enthusiastic with the direction we are going into.”
The good news right now is that Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles is going to see its release very soon as it is slated to be available on Netflix on April 28, 2022. It is likely going to be available at 12:01 a.m. PT or 3:01 a.m. ET. Meanwhile, the first season of Samurai Rabbit will have ten episodes. All of these episodes will be released at the same time.
Samurai Rabbit Plot
As mentioned, Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles is the TV adaptation of the Usagi Yojimbo comic books created by Stan Sakai. This means that the plot of the series is based on the source material, which is the comic book series itself.
In Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles, we follow the story of the titular character named Usagi, who is on a personal mission to become the greatest samurai in all of history. This quest takes him to the futuristic city of Neo Edo.
However, as he seeks to become the greatest samurai in history, he accidentally unleashes dozens of strange monsters known as Yokai, who are out to create trouble for everyone in the world.
Considering that it was his mistake and carelessness that led to the release of the Yokai, Usagi now has to clean up the mess that he caused while enlisting the help of his new friends Chizu, Gen, and Kitsune. What follows is an epic adventure full of action, excitement, comedy, and strangeness.

Where To Watch Samurai Rabbit?

Will There Be Samurai Rabbit Season 2?
At this point, it is tough to say whether or not Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles will be having a second season. What we do know is that ten episodes were ordered for the first season. But because of the fact that this is a comic book series that has been around since the 80s, it is a vast universe with plenty of different stories.
The fact that Usagi Yojimbo is a vast universe means that there is a lot of potential that Netflix could explore by going for multiple seasons of Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles. But the ball is still in the hands of Netflix, which will decide whether or not it will renew Samurai Rabbit based on its viewership. If ever the series is going to get renewed, we might see it returning sometime in 2023.
