Few sequels have carried the kind of decades-long anticipation surrounding this particular reunion, with fans practically begging for a follow-up since the moment the original film became a cult favorite. What started as a beloved but modestly received 1998 release has slowly transformed into one of the most requested comebacks in recent memory.

That long-awaited return finally became a reality this week, as the film’s two leading stars stepped back into the spotlight together for the first time in years.

Sandra Bullock stunned at the ‘Practical Magic 2’ premiere, marking her first official red carpet appearance alongside Nicole Kidman as the film’s press tour officially kicked off. Bullock wore a strapless leopard-print Givenchy gown featuring a corseted bodice and dramatic bow detail, finishing the look with gold chain necklaces and feathered black open-toed heels.

The pair are reprising their roles as Sally and Gillian Owens, the witch sisters at the center of the original film based on Alice Hoffman’s novel. In the story, the Owens women descend from a survivor of the Salem Witch Trials and must contend with a generational curse that kills the men they fall in love with, all while learning to embrace the parts of themselves that make them different.

The sequel marks a significant return for Bullock, who hasn’t appeared in a film since 2022’s ‘The Lost City.’ In the years since, she stepped away from acting to care for her family, particularly during the period when her longtime partner Bryan Randall was battling ALS before his death in 2023.

Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest are also returning as the sisters’ eccentric aunts, with Joey King and Maisie Williams joining the cast as Sally’s two daughters, both of whom appear to have inherited some magical gifts of their own. Susanne Bier is directing the follow-up from a script by Akiva Goldsman, who also co-wrote the original film, giving the sequel a direct creative thread back to the story fans fell in love with in 1998.

Beyond Bullock and Kidman, the cast also includes Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod in previously undisclosed roles. ‘Practical Magic 2’ is set to hit theaters on September 11, arriving twenty-eight years after the original first cast its spell on audiences.

Given the strength of this first red carpet showing, and the clear enthusiasm both stars have carried into the project, fans finally have real reason to believe this long-awaited reunion was worth the wait.
