Sandra Bullock is speaking out about artificial intelligence and how Hollywood should handle it, saying the industry cannot ignore it but must approach it with care.

The actress appeared at the CNBC Changemakers Summit, where she was asked about the growing use of AI in film and entertainment. The topic came up after AI-generated fan trailers for her upcoming film Practical Magic 2 began circulating online, using her image in ways she did not create.

When asked if she found it strange to see AI versions of herself, Bullock responded with a light comment, saying, “Well, there could be worse [things] with my image!”

She then gave a more serious answer about where she stands on the technology. Bullock said AI is already part of the industry and needs to be understood rather than avoided. She stressed that it should be used carefully and in a creative way that supports filmmakers rather than harms them.

As she explained, “But it’s here. We have to observe it. We have to understand it. We have to lean into it. We have to use it in a really constructive and creative way, make it our friend rather than — I mean, we have to be incredibly cautious and aware of it because there are people who will use it for evil and not good.”

She also said she believes AI has a place in the industry, even if it raises concerns. In her view, it is something people will need to adapt to, even if it feels uncomfortable at first. She added, “I do feel that there’s a place for it… It’s here. We have to just be friends in some dark way.”

Her comments come during a wider debate in Hollywood about the role of artificial intelligence in creative work. Many actors, writers, and directors are still divided on how much AI should be used in film production.

Some voices in the industry have raised concerns. Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne has criticized AI, saying it is “sucking up all human knowledge,” and warning about its impact on creativity.

Others are taking a more open approach. Actress Reese Witherspoon has encouraged people to learn about AI instead of avoiding it, calling it “the AI revolution.” She has also pointed out that women could be more affected by automation in jobs, but are currently using AI less than men on average. She has urged people to stay informed and not fall behind as the technology develops.

Bullock’s view sits between caution and acceptance. She is not rejecting AI, but she is warning that it needs limits, awareness, and responsibility.

The discussion around AI in entertainment is expected to continue as the technology becomes more common in filmmaking, editing, and digital content creation.
