Sara Foster Called Her Date With George Clooney “Depressing” in Candid Reveal: “He Is So Old”
Sara Foster is opening up about a date from her past that clearly left a bad impression. During a recent episode of The World’s First Podcast, which she hosts with her sister Erin Foster, the actress shared a blunt story about once being set up with George Clooney.
According to Sara, the date happened about 30 years ago and was arranged by her close friends Cindy Crawford and her husband, Rande Gerber. Looking back, she did not sugarcoat the experience. “I got set up with George Clooney, like, 30 years ago. It was such a blah. Sorry, had to say it,” she said on the podcast.
Sara, now 44, explained that the age difference immediately stood out to her. At the time, Clooney felt much older, and the situation made her uncomfortable. “It was just such a hard no. I remember thinking, ‘Oh, he is so old,’” she said. She added that the date involved the four of them sitting together, which only made things worse for her. “I’m sure George Clooney is a nice guy, but I just remember it being the four of us sitting there and thinking like, ‘I’m gonna die,’” she said.
She also admitted she was already in a bad emotional place because she had just gone through a breakup. That only added to the awkward mood. “Then, here’s this one who just feels like a grandpa. It was depressing. I was so depressed,” she said.
Sara went on to say she felt surprised and even offended that Crawford and Gerber thought the match made sense. Clooney is now 64, and the age gap felt too big to her even then. She used the story to explain why she has never understood younger women dating much older men. “I’ve never understood a 19-year-old that’s into a 40-year-old. I just always thought that was so weird,” she said.
She also made it clear that the feeling was likely mutual. According to Sara, Clooney probably was not thrilled about the date either. “I don’t think it was George being like, ‘Oh, set me up with Sara Foster,’” she said, explaining that it was more likely Crawford and Gerber pushing the idea. She added that she ended up crying about her ex during the date. “So I think he was like, ‘This chick’s not okay,’” she joked.
Sara Foster has had several high-profile relationships over the years. She was once engaged to actor Ashley Hamilton and later dated Benicio del Toro, Leonardo DiCaprio, and David Spade. In 2006, she began a long-term relationship with tennis player Tommy Haas. The couple shares two daughters and announced their separation in August 2024 after 18 years together.
