Sarah Michelle Gellar is a massive star who is mostly famous for being Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Over her long career, she has done a lot of great things like winning an Emmy for All My Children and starring in popular horror movies. She even played Daphne in the live-action Scooby-Doo movies, which many fans still love today. But even with all those hits, she has also been in some movies that did not do very well.

According to information from IMDB and her own past interviews, one specific movie from 1999 still bothers her. The movie is a romantic comedy called Simply Irresistible. In this film, Gellar plays a restaurant owner who is a terrible cook until a magical crab helps her become amazing.

The crab also helps her fall in love with a man played by Sean Patrick Flanery. Gellar has been very honest about how she feels looking back on it. She said that Simply Irresistible was just a bad choice. She also mentioned that For that, it was a great learning experience. I wasn’t ready to make that movie. I was too young. The script was not ready. I knew in my heart before I left to make it that I should back out.

The movie was originally supposed to feature an older actress like Sarah Jessica Parker or Holly Hunter. However, the studio wanted someone younger and picked Gellar because she was already a big star on the Fox network. She was only 22 when it came out, and unfortunately, the movie was a flop. It did not make its money back, and critics thought the story was boring and the magical crab part was just weird.

Gellar has had other setbacks too, like voicing a poorly rated animated movie and making a cameo in the 2025 version of I Know What You Did Last Summer that fans didn’t like as much as the original. Even though Simply Irresistible was a mistake, she was able to move past it and stay a household name. She learned that sometimes you have to trust your gut feeling before taking a job.

I think it is really cool when actors can admit they made a mistake with a movie choice. Almost every big star has at least one film they wish they hadn’t done, but Gellar is brave for talking about it so openly. It shows that even if you are the Chosen One on TV, you can still have a bad day at the office in Hollywood.
