Scarlett Johansson was spotted on the streets of New York City filming intense scenes for the upcoming Exorcist reboot, joined by two stunt doubles to tackle the action-packed sequences.

The actress, 41, went makeup-free and styled her blonde hair in a long braid while wearing a red sweater and pink pajama bottoms, running through the streets with a gun in hand.

At one point, Johansson’s character emerged from a house looking terrified, giving chase across the street while in socks, as her doubles mirrored her every move. Between takes, she chatted casually with the crew, ensuring everything was ready before filming resumed.

British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, 48, also filmed dramatic moments, appearing strapped to a stretcher as actors dressed as paramedics carried him to an ambulance. Sources told the press that Ejiofor plays an ex-con turned priest, though the details of other characters are still largely under wraps.

The film is written, directed, and produced by horror expert Mike Flanagan. Reports say it is not a remake or direct sequel, but a fresh story set in the same universe as the original 1973 classic. Scarlett reportedly leads the story as a mother confronting a supernatural threat, while Jacobi Jupe, known for his award-winning role in Hamnet, plays her son. The cast also includes Rahul Kohli and Sasha Calle, who were seen on set wearing a police vest and badge respectively, along with John Leguizamo, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Carla Gugino, and Kate Siegel.

The Exorcist franchise has a long history, starting with the 1973 film based on William Peter Blatty’s book. The original movie became a cultural phenomenon, earning ten Oscar nominations and grossing $441 million worldwide. The film is infamous for on-set accidents, including a fire that destroyed most of the set, and injuries sustained by actors Linda Blair and Ellen Burstyn. Some even believe a “curse” has followed the franchise, with several cast members passing away under tragic circumstances.

The new film, which is yet to be titled, is scheduled to hit theaters on March 12, 2027. Fans are already excited to see Johansson take on the horror classic with a star-studded cast and high-stakes, thrilling action sequences.

Johansson’s hands-on approach with two stunt doubles shows her dedication to the role, and the combination of Flanagan’s direction and the talented ensemble cast could breathe new life into the Exorcist universe.
