Sci-Fi Horror Survival Game, ‘Cronos: The New Dawn,’ Gets First Gameplay Trailer
Bloober Team, the developers behind the Silent Hill 2 remake, has revealed the first gameplay trailer for their original survival horror game, Cronos: The New Dawn. Set to launch in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, this third-person horror title introduces players to a world blending sci-fi, time travel, and body horror.
In Cronos: The New Dawn, players control a Traveller, an agent of a secretive group called the Collective. The game unfolds across two timelines: a desolate, post-apocalyptic future and 1980s Poland, specifically the crumbling New Dawn district, inspired by the real-world Nowa Huta.
The Traveller’s mission is to journey through time to rescue key individuals before they perish in a looming apocalypse. Standing in the way are the Orphans, grotesque, mutated creatures that embody humanity’s worst fears.
A standout feature highlighted in the trailer is the game’s unique “Merge” mechanic. When players defeat an enemy, it doesn’t stay down unless its body is burned. If left alone, living enemies can absorb the fallen, transforming into faster, stronger, and more terrifying versions with new abilities. This adds a layer of strategy, forcing players to think quickly to prevent these monstrous evolutions.
The trailer also showcases the game’s arsenal, including pistols, shotguns, a fire launcher, and a pulse gun, with fast weapon-switching for intense combat. Players will navigate ruined Brutalist landscapes warped by reality-bending anomalies, using a spacesuit for zero-gravity movement and a tool to reshape pathways.
The eerie atmosphere is heightened by a haunting soundtrack from composer Arkadiusz Reikowski, paired with vocals from the Polish-Ukrainian folk band Zazula, blending synth horror with traditional tones.
Cronos: The New Dawn promises a story filled with cryptic secrets and mysterious characters, each with their own motives. Drawing inspiration from horror classics like Resident Evil and Dead Space, the game aims to deliver a tense, immersive experience. Fans can wishlist it now on Steam, Microsoft Store, or PlayStation for updates.
Bloober Team seems poised to deliver another gripping horror experience with Cronos: The New Dawn. The Merge mechanic sounds like a fresh twist that could keep players on edge, and the time-travel premise adds an intriguing layer to the story. After their success with Silent Hill 2, hopefully they’ll nail the atmosphere and tension.
