Welcome to the Ending Explained for Scoop, a new courtroom drama making its way to Netflix this weekend. The series tells the story of Jagruti Pathak, an up-and-coming journalist who stumbles into an opportunity of her life, only for that opportunity to become the biggest mistake of her life as she is blamed for the murder of a fellow journalist colleague. The series presents itself as a sort of mystery to be solved. Is Jagruti guilty? And if not, then why and who is trying to incriminate her? The revelations come strong and fast in this drama, and the result is a very entertaining and powerful drama on how corruption can attack at any moment and in any place.

Hansal Mehta and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub create the series. The series consists of 6 episodes an hour each, and the amount of information is overwhelming in each of these episodes. If something might hurt the show, it is that the number of names and events referenced throughout the story is massive, and it might be a bit hard to keep all this information in your head as you progress.

Especially because many events are referenced that we never actually see, and so audiences will have to fill out those blank spaces with their own imagination. This is the point of the entire thing, but it doesn’t make it any easier to watch.

The following paragraphs contain spoilers for Scoop. Read at your own risk.

Why Is Jagruti Being Blame For Murder?

First, we have to take into consideration that even though most names have been changed in the series, the reality is that Scoop is based on a real-life case. The case, in fact, is that of Jigna Vora, a journalist who, in real life, was blamed for the murder of one of her colleagues, a man named Jyotirmoy Dey.

The entire series is based on Vora’s memoir of the incident, her time in jail, and the court proceedings that occurred after her arrest. Knowing this, the series becomes even more terrifying because it is hard to think about the many innocents who have been arrested and whose lives ended in the same way.

The series begins with an introduction to Jagruti; it is clear from very early on that she is the perfect embodiment of a journalist. She is capable, smart, relentless, and brave enough to ask the hard questions. We see her being very well-loved at her workplace. Her colleagues think highly of her and see her as the future of the newspaper they work for. At home, Jagruti has a son who is around 11 years old. Her relationship with her son is also quite healthy, and he trusts her completely. Neighbors and friends seem to think that Jagruti is a good person to have around.

However, Jagruti’s entire life will come crashing down when she decides to follow one story. The one dealing with a gangster called Raja. The man is quite elusive, and getting an interview with him would be an amazing scoop. However, every single authority member seems to want to keep Jagruti out of the loop. This doesn’t sit well with her, and she starts looking for other ways to circumvent her contacts and go straight for the source. Some would call this; looking for trouble, and they would be right. But Jagruti is a natural journalist, and her search for the truth won’t be so easily stopped.

Jagruti contacts a very shady man who seems to be in contact with Raja. He promises that he will get her his interview if she manages to learn the whereabouts of another man. At this point, every audience member must be on red alert, as we have learned that when dealing with gangsters, nothing is for free.

Does Jagruti Manage To Clean Her Name?

Jagruti receives the call from a man called Raja. She has her short but promising interview, and everyone celebrates. Jagruti’s accomplishment will be good not only for her but also for the newspaper. However, in that very same moment when everyone else is celebrating Jagruti’s success, a man is being murdered on the streets. This man is a journalist who is acquainted with Jagruti. Both of them have ever seen eye to eye. It doesn’t matter, though; the man dies on the street filled with lead, and Jagruti’s problems are just starting.

When the piece of news goes out, everyone is in clear shock, but as the investigation into the murder continues, it seems the prosecution is willing to take the phone call Jagruti made with Jagar to connect her to the crime. Then, out of pure speculation, the prosecution declares that Jagruti was the one who used her underworld contacts to kill the journalist out of pure hostility. Jagruti is arrested, and she is put into judicial custody until the time for her trial arrives. The issue is that the trial has been delayed for more than eight months. Jagruti’s son is sent to a foster home, and Jagruti suffers for leaving her son alone.

This injustice is met by the reaction of friends and family, who work day and night to make a case for Jagruti’s innocence. In the end, the case is supported by the fact that the prosecution doesn’t have tangible proof to connect Jagruti to Raja or organized crime. It is all a bluff. In the end, we are left with the conclusion that Jagruti was blamed for the murder of the journalist as a distraction. The real reason for the crime is that the journalist was investigating a pool of corruption that extends to many higher-ups in different organizations. His search for the truth put him six feet under.
