Scott MacArthur is the newest actor to join HBO’s upcoming college comedy series starring Steve Carell, according to an exclusive report by Variety. MacArthur will appear in the show in a recurring guest role as production is already underway.

The series, which does not yet have a title, centers on an author played by Steve Carell and explores his complicated relationship with his daughter, a role filled by Charly Clive. The cast also includes Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai.

Scott MacArthur is currently starring in Netflix’s basketball comedy “Running Point,” which got renewed for a second season earlier this year in March. He has a solid background in comedy, having starred in Fox’s series “The Mick.”

In addition, he’s appeared in popular shows like “The Righteous Gemstones,” “History of the World Part II,” “Killing It,” and “Physical.” Not only an actor, MacArthur has also contributed as a writer on “The Mick” and “Righteous Gemstones.”

Fans may also recognize him from the film “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie,” where he played an important role. Other movie credits include “No Hard Feelings” and “Halloween Kills.” Looking ahead, MacArthur will be seen in the upcoming Amazon/MGM+ series “Spider Noir,” which stars Nicolas Cage. He is represented by UTA, Haven Entertainment, and Yorn Levine Barnes.

The HBO series is created by Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses, who also serve as executive producers. Bill Lawrence produces the show through his Doozer banner, alongside Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. Steve Carell is involved not only as the lead actor but also as an executive producer.

Additional executive producers include Jonathan Krisel, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Stassen, and Anthony King, while David Hyman serves as co-executive producer. Warner Bros. Television is the studio behind the series, with Doozer and Tarses under overall deals there.

This new series adds to the excitement surrounding Steve Carell, who continues to take on interesting and varied projects. With Scott MacArthur joining the mix, viewers can expect a fresh and entertaining addition to the ensemble. According to Variety, production is moving fast, so fans won’t have to wait long to see what this college comedy has in store.
