Scottish Landmark to Be Digitally Destroyed in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Explosion Scene
Glasgow is about to become Spider-Man’s playground, again. According to The Herald, parts of the city are getting ready for filming scenes from the upcoming Marvel movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which stars Tom Holland and is expected to hit theaters in summer 2026.
For the past few weeks, people in Glasgow have noticed crew members and location scouts studying buildings and streets in the city center. It turns out they’ve been preparing for big scenes, including one involving an explosion, though don’t worry, it’ll all be done with CGI.
The team is currently working on creating a digital version of the Scottish Legal Life Assurance Building, which is expected to be blown up in the film using special effects.
Filming will take place in several locations, including George Square, Bothwell Street, St Vincent Street, and a few others around the city. Some roads will be closed off in August when the outdoor scenes start shooting, according to The Sunday Times.
City officials are fully on board with the production. A spokesperson from Glasgow City Council said, “While we cannot comment on individual productions, the council’s Glasgow Film Office is in constant dialogue with film, broadcast and advertising productions of all sizes who are interested in filming in the city to establish how we can support them.”
They also added that these kinds of projects help the local economy and support the growth of Glasgow’s film industry, including new production spaces like the Kelvin Hall studio.
As for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, details about the story are still being kept quiet. What we do know is that this film kicks off a new chapter for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Holland has talked in the past about whether he’d continue playing the character and said he wants to make sure any future projects “do justice to the character.”
There’s been a lot of behind-the-scenes movement to make this film happen. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal have been involved in getting the next Spider-Man story together. After the last trilogy ended with No Way Home, which made nearly £2 billion worldwide, Marvel and Sony decided to continue Holland’s journey as Peter Parker in a fresh direction.
Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi, was brought on to direct, and production is expected to begin in mid-2025. New cast members like Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas have joined, and Jon Bernthal is also back as The Punisher. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are returning too, though we don’t yet know how big their roles will be.
So, if you’re in Glasgow this summer and see Spider-Man swinging through the streets, or explosions being prepared downtown, now you know why.
