Scream 6 Confirms First Returning Stars
The very known slasher horror franchise Scream returned earlier this year with its 5th installment, which was released 11 years after Scream 4 and 26 years after the original movie of the franchise directed by Wes Craven. Craven directed the first four movies of the franchise before his death in 2015, and the fifth movie was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
The latest movie was released last January and it grossed $140 million against the reported budget of $24 million, which was a decent success. The development of the sequel was announced a month after the movie’s release. Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett will return to direct the sixth installment, with the release date set on March 31, 2023.
The Hollywood Reporter now confirmed that Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega, who starred as Sam Carpenter, Mindy Meeks-Martin, Chad Meeks-Martin, and Tara Carpenter, respectively, are all set to return for the upcoming sequel. Franchise veterans Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Neve Campbell are also expected to return. The filming is set to begin this summer.
The sequel’s plot is kept under wraps, but according to THR, the movie “continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”
Written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, and directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, Scream 6 is set to be released on March 31, 2023.
