Scream 6: Release Date, Plot, Cast, Trailer, and More

Scream 6: Release Date, Plot, Cast, Trailer

The Scream franchise is finally getting the reboot it deserves, with Scream 5 coming out at any moment. It’ll pick up the story 25 years after the initial Woodsboro massacre, and we know the main cast will return. But, there are also rumors that it won’t be the last piece of the franchise. Will there be a Scream 6, and if so, what do we know about it?

Scream 6 will almost certainly happen shortly after Scream 5. It was already green-lit per some reports, and the co-director of Scream 5 already stated, ‘there are more stories to tell in Woodsboro.’ The whats, whens, and whos are still unknown, but we know several key things.

One, it will almost certainly happen. Two, we won’t have to wait as long as we waited between sequels four and five. Three, the main characters will almost certainly return, as they did for five straight films – it’s hard to imagine them getting killed off in the fifth and not returning for number six, right? …Right? Here’s everything we know so far about Scream 6.

Will There Be A Scream 6 After Scream (2022)?

Scream 6: Release Date, Plot, Cast, Trailer

The fifth movie in the Scream franchise came as a surprise for many fast for two reasons. One, it’s been a decade since the last film came out. Two, the beloved director, Wes Craven, passed away in 2015. Everyone thought it was the final goodby for the franchise, but a new group of creators got the green light to reboot the franchise.

The main three characters, Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers/Riley, and Dewey Riley, will all return, as well as the actors portraying them (Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette. I’m telling you this because it’s crucial for the next part – will there be a Scream 6 after Scream (2022). The answer – almost definitely, yes.

First of all, even the original creator duo, Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson, said that they already had ‘5 and 6’ planned after the fourth movie came out. Of course, that changed with Craven passing away, but then we got another confirmation from one of the new co-directors, Tyler Gillett.

Gilet said: “(…) Fact is, they’ve [Guy Busick & James Vanderbilt] found a real reason for the next story to exist. We know there is more gasoline in the tank. There are more stories to tell in Woodsboro, and about these characters, of course.”

So, we have Wes and Kevin planning at least two more movies after the fourth. We have a new, amazing creator crew that already has a sequel in mind. And, we have the main protagonists signed to return, on top of other reports claiming that Scream 6 had already been green-lit by the production team. That’s a wrap for me – get ready, people, we’re getting one more!

What the plot of Scream 6 will be is still unknown, but it will certainly depend heavily on the events of Scream 5 and how the movie finishes. We’ll have a lot more information to work with after the fifth movie finally comes out. Let’s see what we have so far.

Scream 6 Release Date

Scream 6: Release Date, Plot, Cast, Trailer

Due to the film not being confirmed to be in pre-production yet, there’s no release date, either. However, I think we can narrow it down a bit.

First of all, it’s certain that we won’t have to wait another ten years for Scream 6, as we waited between Scream 4 and 5. With the project already planned and the writers knowing where they want to go with the story – and the main cast not getting any younger – the production will likely start sooner rather than later.

Assuming it begins immediately after Scream 5 gets released, we can expect Scream 6 to come out somewhere in late-2023 or early-2024.

Scream 6 Plot

As I mentioned, the plot of Scream 6 will heavily depend on what happens in Scream 5. We have some information about that one despite not yet officially released, so let’s play the educated-guessing game.

In the trailer for Scream 5, we see many new characters who are claimed to be somehow related to the original Woodsboro killers, Billy Loomis and Stu Macher. The new Ghostface killer is targeting them, but it’s unclear why.

Another important piece of information about the fifth movie’s plot comes from the two taglines associated with the film before its release – “It’s always someone you know” and “The killer is on the poster” (referring to the movie’s poster).

If it weren’t for the first tagline, the second could be interpreted as a humorous one-liner because, well, Ghostface is on the poster. However, the first tagline gives it a bit more depth. If it’s someone we know, could the killer be somebody from the previous movies? Sidney, Dewey, and Gale are all on the poster, along with many new cast members, so who knows?

I think it’s safe to say that the writers already gave us enough to see how this story could develop. We have old fan-favorite characters shined under a different light, new characters coming in and playing crucial roles that connect them all the way back to the original film, and much more.

I believe that one of the old characters will be the new Ghostface, while the new cast of characters will take a more pivotal role in the sixth film. We can speculate more after we see what happens in number five.

Scream 6 Cast

Scream 6: Release Date, Plot, Cast, Trailer

We’re four movies into the franchise (five, in a couple of days), 25 years in the making, and the main three characters, Sidney, Gale, and Dewey, survive to return for the sequel every time.

There’s no reason to believe that Campbell, Cox, and Arquette won’t return for Scream 6 too, but perhaps the writers want to do something new in the 2022 reboot and kill someone off. I don’t believe it will happen, but take it with a grain of salt.

We can’t know who else will survive the fifth film because we know there will be buckets of blood and dozens of victims, but for the sake of argument, let’s say they all survive the fifth film to return for another go.

That’d mean Marley Shelton will be back as Deputy Judy Hicks. Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega play Sam and Tara Carpenter, respectively, while Dylan Minnette will be Wes Hicks. Another confirmed face we’ve seen in the trailer is Jack Quaid, who’ll play Richie Kirsch.

Other cast members include Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sonia Ammar, Mikey Madison, Mason Gooding, Kyle Gallner, Chester Tam, and others. Out of all these characters, probably about half of them won’t survive for Scream 6.

Who dies and who survives remains to be seen, as well as what other new characters might appear or reappear in the sixth flick.

Scream 6 Trailer

The film isn’t confirmed yet, and the production hasn’t even started yet, so there’s still no trailer for Scream 6. However, Scream 5 will likely end with a cliff-hanger, possibly even a cold intro to the story that will be the focal plot point in Scream 6.

With the writers and directors being so excited about the possibility of a sixth film, it seems that they don’t lack the material. How do you think the story will develop? What’s your opinion on a potential Scream 6?
