Sebastian Stan Joins ‘The Batman 2’ in a Fan-Favorite Role
Sebastian Stan is stepping into the world of Gotham City, as he has officially joined The Batman: Part II, according to a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter. The actor will take on the role of Harvey Dent in the highly anticipated sequel to the 2022 blockbuster.
Stan is no stranger to superhero films, having played Bucky Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier, in numerous Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.
While he has a long history as a costumed character, details about his role in The Batman sequel are still under wraps. Fans are curious whether Dent will appear as an ally to Bruce Wayne or as one of Gotham’s notorious villains.
The sequel, directed by Matt Reeves, is set to begin production next spring. Warner Bros. is planning an October 2027 release. The first Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, hit theaters in March 2022 and earned $772 million worldwide.
Alongside Stan, the sequel’s cast continues to grow. Academy Award nominee Scarlett Johansson has joined the project, reuniting with Stan after several Marvel films. Returning cast members include Colin Farrell as Oz Cobblepot, better known as The Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Barry Keoghan is expected to reprise his role as the Joker.
Reeves spoke about the film’s development at the Emmys, “It’s been a long journey, but I’m so incredibly excited. I’m really proud of the script me and Mattson did.” He also explained the secrecy surrounding the project, saying, “We put [the script] into a secret pouch that literally has a lock on it with a code. [Pattinson] was in New York at the time, and everything is high security.”
The Batman: Part II is not officially part of the newly relaunched DC Universe, but it is still being developed under DC Studios, led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The DCU recently began its new era with Superman, which earned $615 million worldwide. Upcoming DC projects include Supergirl in June, Clayface in September 2026, the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow in July 2027, and a new Wonder Woman film.
Stan has been busy on other projects as well. He most recently appeared in Thunderbolts, an MCU release that underperformed at the box office. His past credits include I, Tonya and A Different Man. He is set to appear next in Avengers: Doomsday and the thriller Fjord.
Fans are excited to see Stan take on Harvey Dent, a character with a complex history in Gotham. His experience in superhero films, combined with his past collaborations with Johansson and Pattinson, makes him a natural fit for the role.
DC Studios has not commented on Stan’s casting, and the actor is represented by CAA and B-Side Management. Deadline first reported the news.
