Sebastian Stan Promises ‘Thunderbolts’ Will Be Marvel’s Most Unique Team Yet

‘Thunderbolts*’ is one of the many upcoming MCU movies, but it stands out for a few important reasons. First, it will bring Marvel’s version of the Suicide Squad to the MCU. Second, it will introduce Sentry, one of the most powerful characters in comics, to the big screen.

The movie will also see the return of our favorite (anti) heroes most notable among them Red Guardian played by David Harbour, Yelena Belova, MCU’s current Black Widow played by Florence Pugh, and Bucky Barnes played by Sebastian Stan.

In previous interviews cast members have already discussed how ‘Thunderbolts*’ will showcase a completely different team than what we’re used to seeing in the MCU and the team dynamic in the movie will be special with great focus on wounded people who feel that their superpowers are useless.

Now in his most recent interview for ET Online, Sebastian Stan made one more unusual comparison comparing the team to a pairing of misfits akin to what we could see in ‘The Breakfast Club’ and adding that they might not all survive each other:

“I think this movie is very singular and it will stand on its own. I know these are bold words, but there’s no other Marvel group that you can compare us to. I like ‘The Breakfast Club’ — a pair of misfits that hopefully don’t kill each other.”

Not much is known about the plot of the movie so far except for what the official synopsis has revealed to us. The movie will reportedly see Thunderbolts sent on various missions until they realize they are purposely being pitted against each other.

The movie reportedly recently had a test screening and the reactions have been very positive. Yelena is apparently the main character, with Sentry having a comic-accurate outfit with some differences.

The test audiences were most impressed with the action scenes and the tone of the movie which is similar to that of ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’ Judging by the fan reactions to the first promotional materials, this sounds accurate, but I guess we won’t know until the movie releases.

The movie is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 2, 2025, as the final film of Phase Five of the MCU.
