Sebastian Stan Swaps ‘Thunderbolts*’ Poster for ‘The New Avengers’ in Funny Marvel Promo

Marvel fans got a fun surprise this morning when a new video appeared on Marvel Studios’ social media. In the clip, actor Sebastian Stan, best known for playing Bucky Barnes, also called the Winter Soldier, is seen swapping a movie poster at a bus stop.
Stan is dressed all in black, just like his character usually appears in Marvel films. In the video, he walks casually with a few rolled-up posters under his arm. When he spots a Thunderbolts* poster at a bus stop, he stops and replaces it with one that says The New Avengers.
He secures it with tape at the top and bottom, making it look like an intentional switch.
This playful promo comes just after the release of Thunderbolts*, which hit theaters on Friday, May 2, and earned $74 million during its opening weekend. Before this, Marvel shared another funny moment, a video showing Florence Pugh revealing a hidden surprise on a different poster.
At what looks like the Los Angeles premiere, Pugh walks up to a poster for the movie. She rips off the top layer, showing the Thunderbolts* title, and underneath it, the words The New Avengers appear.
Fans had been wondering for a while why there was an asterisk at the end of the Thunderbolts* title. Marvel has finally explained that the star doesn’t mean a name change, it’s just a playful reference.
In the movie, the name Thunderbolts actually comes from Yelena’s childhood soccer team.
The humorous poster swaps by Stan and Pugh are a lighthearted way to stir up excitement, and possibly hint at bigger things to come in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
