Catherine O’Hara was celebrated at the 32nd Annual Actor Awards on Sunday, March 1, in a moving tribute that highlighted her incredible impact on the world of comedy. The legendary actress was honored with a posthumous win for Best TV Comedy Actress for her work in the Apple TV+ series The Studio.

Seth Rogen, who created the show and starred alongside her, walked onto the stage to accept the trophy on her behalf. O’Hara passed away in January at the age of 71 due to a pulmonary embolism.

Rogen spoke to the crowd about how lucky he felt to have worked with her during her final role. I know she would’ve been honored to receive this award from her fellow performers, who I know she respected so much. She was such a big fan of all of yours, Rogen told the audience during his speech.

He shared a story about how O’Hara would often email him and his writing partner, Evan Goldberg, before a day of filming. He said she would send over a rewritten version of her scenes that always made the show much better.

She really showed that you can be a genius and be kind, and one of those things does not have to come at the expense of the other in any way, shape, or form, he added. Rogen told everyone in the room that they should share her work with anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.

He mentioned her famous dance scene in Beetlejuice and her hilarious moments in Best in Show. He reminded the audience that the world was better because she was so willing to share her talent with everyone. We were lucky that we got to live in a world where she so generously shared her talents with us, he said.

The actress had a long and amazing career that most people know from her role as the mom in the Home Alone movies or as Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek. Just before she passed, she also appeared in the second season of the HBO hit The Last of Us as a character named Gail.

This role earned her a lot of praise and an Emmy nomination for being a standout guest star. In The Studio, O’Hara played Patty Leigh, a seasoned Hollywood mentor to Seth Rogen’s character. The show is a comedy that pokes fun at how movies are made in Hollywood.

It features many other big stars like Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Bryan Cranston. Even though O’Hara is gone, the show has already been renewed for a second season on Apple TV+, and filming for the new episodes began earlier this year.

O’Hara also worked on the highly anticipated sequel to Beetlejuice, which was released in late 2024. In that film, she returned to her famous role as Delia Deetz alongside Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton.

She leaves behind her husband, Bo Welch, and their two sons, Matthew and Luke. Her fans and fellow actors will always remember her for being both a comedic genius and a very gracious person.
