In 2012 the original ‘Alien’ franchise expanded in the past with the release of ‘Alien: Prometheus’ In ‘Prometheus,’ a group of scientists and explorers travel to a distant planet after discovering ancient clues that suggest humans were created by an alien race called the Engineers.
The follow-up movie ‘Alien: Covenant’ ties into these events. A colony ship called the Covenant is on a mission to a distant planet to start a new human settlement. They discover a remote world that seems perfect for colonization, but soon find it’s the home of a deadly alien species and the artificial lifeform David, who survived the events of ‘Prometheus.’
As the crew investigates, they encounter terrifying xenomorphs and must fight for survival against the deadly creatures. The film ends with David taking control, setting the stage for more horrors to come.
This year’s ‘Alien: Romulus’ however did little to continue the story, as the franchise turns once again toward the future rather than making prequels. This meant that the fate of several characters had never been cleared up, including Daniels played by Katherine Waterston.
She becomes a key figure in the fight for survival against the deadly xenomorphs and David. By the end of the movie Daniels is placed in stasis by David posing as Walter and packed into a rescue pod. Her fate is left open-ended.
Katherine Waterston recently discussed her ending with Inverse and revealed that she likes to think that her character did survive the journey in the pod.
I like to think that Daniels made it out of the pod, but I’m not sure
She expressed that she would love to return to the ‘Alien’ franchise if Daniels survived, highlighting her admiration for Ridley Scott and the world of ‘Alien.’
She also shared her gratitude for the growing appreciation of ‘Alien: Covenant’ and the David Saga, noting that more people are connecting with the film over time, and she personally feels the same way as a fan.
I just love that world. And Ridley is a dream. He’s an incredible person and a great collaborator. I’d personally love to work with him again, but even if I wasn’t involved, I’d just love to go to the cinema and watch it.
I really felt that with Covenant, that just with every passing year there seemed to be more people that are attached to it, and they come up to me to talk to me about it. And I, as a fan, feel the exact same way.
