Tramell Tillman made Emmy history on Sunday night, becoming the first Black man to win the award for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series. The “Severance” star, who plays Milchick in the Apple TV+ show, earned his first Emmy nomination and immediately took home the prize.

Tillman was up against notable actors including Zach Cherry and John Turturro from “Severance,” James Marsden from “Paradise,” and Sam Rockwell, Jason Isaacs, and Walton Goggins from “The White Lotus.” His win marks a historic moment in the Emmy Awards’ history, highlighting both his talent and the increasing recognition of diverse performers in television.

During his acceptance speech, Tillman reflected on his journey and the people who supported him. “You remember what you want to remember. You make time for what you want to make time for, do the work, show up, and most importantly, for the love of God, don’t embarrass me in public,” he said.

He also paid tribute to his mother, saying, “Mama, you were there for me when no one else was and no one else would show up. Your loving kindness stays with me, and this is for you. Thank you to the Academy. I am full. I am humbled. I am honored. And as my mama would say, ‘look at God.’”

The award was presented by Jude Law and Jason Bateman, following the announcements for lead actor and actress in a comedy series, which went to Seth Rogen for “The Studio” and Jean Smart for “Hacks,” respectively.

Tillman’s win not only celebrates his performance on “Severance” but also represents a significant milestone for representation in the television industry. His heartfelt speech and acknowledgment of his roots resonated with viewers and industry peers alike.

This historic Emmy win is a huge step forward for inclusion and recognition in Hollywood. Tillman’s achievement shows that talent and dedication are being celebrated more broadly than ever before. What do you think about this milestone in Emmy history? Share your thoughts in the comments.
